The Hobbit Trilogy... Can't Post

Just for fun, share your thoughts.

1. Favorite movie
2. Best book-to-screen adaptation
3. Best original scene
4. Favorite character
5. Best Bilbo moment
6. Best Thorin moment
7. Dwarves or Elves
8. Best villain
9. Favorite quote
10. Are you a Took or a Baggins?

Mine:
1. An Unexpected Journey
2. It's a tie between Bilbo/Gollum and Bilbo/Smaug...brilliant performances from Freeman, Serkis, and Cumberbatch.
3. The acorn scene and "I belong with my brother"...again wonderful performances from Freeman, Armitage, O'Gorman, and Turner.
4. Fili...Thorin and Dwalin are tied for a very close second.
5. Thanks to Martin Freeman's brilliant performance, every moment with Biblo is wonderful. However, if I had to choose a best moment - other than those scenes mentioned above - probably when Bilbo confronts Thorin on the ramparts.
6. Just like Bilbo, thanks to Richard Armitage's performance every moment with Thorin is great. Even in the throes of dragon-sickness he's captivating. Still one moment - if I had to choose - perhaps Thorin's confrontation with Thranduil in the Mirkwood throne room.
7. Ask me back when LOTR was in films I would have said Elves, but since The Hobbit its been the Dwarves. Sometime after seeing AUJ, I remember reading Durin's Folk from the LOTR appendices for the first time and thought to myself, "The Dwarves are great! Why had I not noticed them before?"
8. Smaug, he's cunning, captivating, and...well just look at him. Also, Gollum. I simultaneously despise and pity him, and, IMO, a villain who stirs up mixed feeling is not only a great villian, but a great character.
9. I love quotes. I could probably write an entire post on my favorite quotes, but for now I'll share one from each film.
AUJ: It was a sickness of the mind, and where sickness thrives bad things will follow.
DOS: I laid low your warriors of old. I instilled terror in the hearts of men. I AM KING UNDER THE MOUNTAIN!
BOFTA: I know that dwarves can be obstinate and pigheaded and difficult. They're suspicious and secretive, with the worst manners you can possibly imagine. But they are also brave and kind, and loyal to a fault.
10. A Baggins who wishes she was a Took.

Neat idea [In reply to] Can't Post

 1. The Battle of the Five Armies
2. Bilbo vs. Smaug
3. Tauriel healing Kili
4. Thorin
5. "I'm not asking you to allow it, Gandalf." (He has gone beyond merely donning some bravery here; he's totally come into his own)
6. The same moment that I will recount on #9
7. Elves
8. Smaug
9. "Go back to your books... and your armchair... plant your trees, watch them grow. If more people valued home above gold, the world would be a merrier place."
10. A Baggins, for better or worse

[To a corpse] "You're looking so well, darling, you really are. They've done a marvelous job. I don't know what sort of cream they've put on you down at the morgue, but I want some."

My list - not so different from yours [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Favorite movie - I keep saying AUJ was near-perfect, but I'm going with DOS because of Smaug.

2. Best book-to-screen adaptation - another tough call, but will go with Barrels out of BondsSly

3. Best original scene - Legolas & Tauriel fighting the Orcs in Bard's houseCool

4. Favorite character - Thorin, of course!EvilHeart

5. Best Bilbo moment - Another tough call - when he first meets Smaug, the way he's trembling with fear, very believable.

6. Best Thorin moment - Probably Thorin v. Thranduil, although his fight scene with Azog in BOT5A is pretty amazing!

7. Dwarves or Elves - see #4

8. Best villain - honestly, I think Dragon-sick Thorin was the best villain; he threatened to kill Dwalin! Now that's just going too far!

9. Favorite quote - "I may be a burglar, but I'd like to think I'm an honest one." Cracks me up every time!Sly Close runner up: "Aren't you going to search me? I could have anything down my trousers" - LOL, don't know why so many hate that line, but I think it's funny!

10. Are you a Took or a Baggins? - Sadly, I'm a Baggins. I enjoy the comforts of home, and the closest I get to Tookish behavior is watching movies.

I love a purely positive thread. Cheers! [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Favorite movie - DOS, because of Lake-town...and Smaug...and Tauriel
2. Best book-to-screen adaptation - Riddles in the Dark. Perfect.
3. Best original scene - Tauriel explaining the Elvish love of starlight, Kili describing the fire moon. Two antagonistic races seeing past their differences.
4. Favorite character - Bilbo
5. Best Bilbo moment - It's still AUJ when he realizes in Bag End that the dwarves have gone, and he really wants to go too!
6. Best Thorin moment - "Go back to your books and your armchair, plant your trees, watch them grow. If more people valued home above gold, the world would be a merrier place."
7. Dwarves or Elves - What?! You want me to choose between Thorin and Elrond/Thranduil/Galadriel, Dwalin and the Captain of the Elven guard, Fili/Kili and Legolas, The Company/Dain and the Rivendalians? Na-ah!
8. Best villain - Smaug, The Superbly Realized.
9. Favorite quote - (2) "It is our fight. Are we not part of this world?" and "I'm not doing it for you. I know that dwarves can be obstinate and pigheaded and difficult. They're suspicious and secretive, with the worst manners you can possibly imagine. But they are also brave and kind, and loyal to a fault. I've grown very fond of them, and I would save them if I can."

10. Are you a Took or a Baggins? - This ageing Took now prefers the pleasures of a homely Baggins life. Stoke up that fire, would you please? And then pass the scones, there's a good lass.

Ooh! [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Favorite movie:

- An Unexpected Journey

2. Best book-to-screen adaptation

- Gollum & Bilbo. Bilbo and Smaug.

3. Best original scene

- Four dwarves left in Lake-Town. I quite liked.

4. Favorite character

- Fili Heart Kili, Bofur and Bilbo.

5. Best Bilbo moment

- Hmm. When he spares Gollum's life. First time we meet young Bilbo, his farewell to Gandalf in Botfa, his reactions to Fili and Thorin's deaths... there's so many.

6. Best Thorin moment

- His death scene

7. Dwarves or Elves

- Dwarves of course!

8. Best villain

- Smaug. And while I hate that he killed the Durins, how often do we get a badguy that succeeds in what he sets out to do?

9. Favorite quote

“Farewell, Master Burglar. Go back to your books… and your armchair… plant your trees, watch them grow. If more people… valued home above gold… this world would be a merrier… place…”

10. Are you a Took or a Baggins?

I'm a Bilbo! Laugh I like the comforts of home, but I'm also very curious of the world outside and love to travel. So Bilbo is for me very easy to relate to.

Oh dear, I'm not good at this.... but here goes [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Each of them for different reasons, but overall I'd say Desolation of Smaug.
2. I have a feeling everyone's going to go for Bilbo and Gollum or Bilbo and Smaug because both scenes are so good; just to be different, I'm going to choose the EE version of the bargaining over the Arkenstone from Battle of the Five Armies - that whole scene when Bard and Thranduil reveal to Thorin that they have the stone.
3. For me it's a toss-up between Feast of Starlight and the golden statue.
4. Bilbo really, but I'll say Thorin as a sort of apology for never have liked him in the book.
5. Almost every time he appears, but I'll choose the acorn scene.
6. A tie - the death scene and his first entry into Erebor (and several others, but I won't go on...Wink )
7. Elves on my right hand, dwarves on my left.
8. Er... should that be 'worst' Tongue I'll say Sauron
9. It was lovely to hear the 'Good morning' coversation and lots of other actual Tolkien dialogue, but as an original quote I'll choose 'I have seen the world fall away and the white light of forever fill the air'
10. A book!

Neat game! [In reply to] Can't Post

1. The Desolation of Smaug
2. Probably Riddles in the Dark, but I thought the Unexpected Party was pretty close!
3. When Smaug is covered in molten gold.
4. Bilbo. But I also like Bard.
5. His speech before Azog attacks them at the end of AUJ.
6. His run down the trees in AUJ.
7. Elves.
8. I would say Saruman(because he's my favorite villain in the other trilogy) But I will have to go with Smaug!
9."Revenge? Revenge! I will show you revenge!"
10. I am a Baggins!

A Good Trilogy [In reply to] Can't Post

3. Bilbo's speech before "Out of the Frying-pan and into the Fire"
4. BILBO!!!
5. I can't choose... That's impossible
6. The acorn scene.
7. DWARVES!!!
8. I don't know... I know that some people hate Azog, but I think that he is a good villain, for the most part. I like Smaug. While I think that Sauron is a great villain, he did not belong in these movies.
9. "I'm not a Took, I'm a Baggins. I don't know what I was thinking." or "That's why I came back... Because you don't have one... a home. It was taken from you, but I will help you get it back if I can." -Bilbo
10. I think I'm much more a Baggins than a Took.

I have yet to see the Extended Edition of BoFA... [In reply to] Can't Post

but I'll give this a shot, anyhow:

1. Favorite movie: Still DoS, since nothing bad happens to Thorin (I hate that), followed by AUJ and BoFA last but not least (for obvious reasons)
2. Best book-to-screen adaptation: I'll have to say Riddles in the Dark, since it's pretty close to how I pictured it in the book

3. Best original scene: Tough one, but I'll have to go with Tauriel standing up to Thranduil in BoFA, accusing him of not having any love. It was nice to see Thranduil console her after Kili's death by saying "because it was real", since that line nearly always makes me get all misty eyed, and mirrors my own thoughts about my own preferred heir of Durin (why, Tolkien, why).
4. Favorite character: Do I even have to answer this question? Thorin, duh (who'd you expect me to choose)! Wink
5. Best Bilbo moment: I like it when he faints in AUJ after Bofur tells him what Smaug might do to him (I probably wouldn't have fainted myself)

6. Best Thorin moment: All of them (except anything bad that happens to him, of course, since like I mentioned before, I hate that)!
7. Dwarves or Elves? Dwarves (never been much of an Elf fan, sorry)!
8. Best villain: Smaug! Who doesn't love dragons, but I cringe everytime he destroys a part of Erebor. If he survived, I would make him clean it all up!
9. Favorite quote: I still love Thorin's line from DoS: "If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together!" When RA accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge, someone on Facebook (not me) posted a similar quote: "If this is to end in ice, then we shall all freeze together!" I thought that was brilliant!
10. Are you a Took or a Baggins? Took, definitely, since unlike Bilbo, I go stir crazy if I stay home, and will go out in any weather (even a blizzard or a very powerful wind storm. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right, and Mother Nature hasn't got me yet).

Hopefully, I'll get to see the Extended Edition of BoFA soon, since sometimes it takes me a while to get up the nerve (especially if I haven't seen it in a while), since I know certain scenes are going to make me cry (like the funeral scene, for example).Unsure
