You don't need a card to be a Ringer!

Isn't it more fun to just BE a Ringer and not have to pay someone (other than the bookstore where you purchased the books) for the privilege? It's in your soul man!

But here was my dilemma at the time....no one I knew was like me....understood why I kept going back to see fellowship over and over. I joined initially just to find like minded people and being internet ignorant I had no idea there were communities that were free message boards...I thought I had to join....It all worked out in the end...Some of those that I met on line way back then lured me out to one event...The Q&A with Pete, Fran, Christopher Lee and Howard Shore in 2002 in NYC the humble beginnings of meeting other ringers and traveling all over to meet more. It was the beginning of my own journey and I'd not change a thing. What is one lone Ringer? The camaraderie with others here and at the fan club can never be replaced, it is my own fellowship, a legacy that began when the films where made. I have friends I have never met and many I have and will never forget....Its all meant so much more. Don't get me wrong I loved the books and will always love them....but when Peter brought what I saw in my head to life Well.....see above....I needed to seek out others who understood.
I am not obsessed... If I am, I am in excellent company.

because I had the same experience years ago with the Harry Potter books. It was after 'Prisoner of Azkaban' came out; I finally decided to read the books and was fascinated. It brought me to finally make frequent use of my laptop, who at the time was barely used. Luckily I stumbled over a great HP website, plucked up the courage to e-mail the webmistress, and by way of her I ended up at a great HP board. There I made a lot of online friends, and after getting to know each other over PM, e-mail and finally Instant Messengers, we started mooting. Over time true friendships developed, and with most of them I am still in contact, and we use every excuse available to moot That was such a great experience and made the books even more dear. Today I have shifted more to LotR, and that is a bit different, because most of my online friends are living thousands of kilometres away and mooting is difficult, if not impossible. But it is as much fun as with HP to finally have someone with whom to talk endlessly about my favourite books, and it is usually much more than just talking about Tolkien. We care for each other, share joys and sorrows - and that is what makes the experience so unforgettable and unreplacable, isn't it?
I do not suffer from LotR obsession - I enjoy every minute of it.

My close friends on line know more about me than most people I live next door to...then again I don't have to face them everyday...lol

Hoping for a "The Hobbit" fan club

If the studio creates one (which is very likely, in my opinion) and Decipher or TORn, or Sideshow, etc. sponsors it (its probably very expensive to buy the license to run an official fan club, I would think) I'll be sure to join it in time, this go 'round. I didn't join in time to get my name in the credits for LOTR, but I'd like to have that for "The Hobbit." Like others, I think that is uber-cool to see your own name in the fan club credits and delightful to be associated with the film in that way. I do have all the magazines safely stored in all their glossy glory, and I still carry my LOTR fan club card in my wallet! I've enjoyed holding it up and saying in a serious tone, "The Middle-earth Express Card: don't leave the Shire without it." (for you younger folks, that was my parody of an old American Express Card commercial.) -ML aka -Debbie/primmy

That is my "uke & flute-playing fool" icon. It reminds me that I need to practice more often! Anyway, let's both of us be sure we get our names in those official fan club credits this time, if there is an official fan club! -ML aka -Debbie/primmy

Is there any word yet on whether there will be an Official Fan Club or not? More importantly, will we be presented with another opportunity to have our names in the extended credits?
Things are going to get better!!!
