The Hobbit....

Can't Post

I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place or if some one has already brought this up but I would like to just clarify to myself that The Hobbit will be made into a film? Or is it another one of Tolkien's stories... If it is the hobbit will they be making a script or do you think they may follow along the lines of the play (i think it was a play, I may be mistaken but I saw the script once long ago for a play format) will it be a New Line feature again or will another company be taking hold of the film? I know that the dirrector is still up in the air between Jackson and Del Torro, either I'm sure would be great. aside from those small things I was wondering if TheOneRing.net might ever post, once the movie is underway, for extra's. I recall when the LoTR trilogy was being filmed they asked for extra's... does anyone think they may do that again? Thanks for any answers you may have for me.

I'd suggest searching on "Hobbit"...

...in the Movie Discussions and Main categories, and use Options to sort by date. Or, just browse the posts manually in those categories going back over the past three months. There's tonnes of discussions that have already gone on, and they have titles that are pretty self-explanitory. You can also look at tyhe archives stories in the site navigation on the left under The Hobbit -> Movie.

TORN would have posted news stories that appeared in New Zealand media about a call for LOTR extras - so if there are future news stories about extras being called for The Hobbit, TORN will post those articles too. Do you live in NZ, or do you plan to try to be here during the filming of The Hobbit?
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Thank you both for the info I'll make sure to check around ^_^ I'm sorry for the post I'm kind of new to this kind of message board. I don't live in NZ but I would love to travel there just on my own and especially if I could be an extra in the Hobbit or any other Tolkien based film. I'll be graduating University so I'll be free to travel if possible. I'll check the board for postings. Thank you again!

I've tried to get some information on getting a working permit in New Zealand so that I could possibly become an extra myself. It seems rather complicated unless you already have a job arranged or have a talent that makes it so that you cannot be replaced by a New Zealander (actors fall under this, but since my only talent is looking faintly hobbit-like...). I have recently learned my country has an arrangement with the government of New Zealand on "Working holidays" which means you can get a temporary working permit if you're planning on working for less than 3 months. I don't know if your country has this sort of an arrangement.

You generally have to be under 30, and they generally last for 12 months (with NZ, some people can extend to 23 months but you have to go through the rigmarole of health checks and so on for that long). You can work for a maximum of 12 months but officially not for longer than three months with any one employer, although this might vary again depending on where you come from. On my British working holiday visa to NZ I got a job a couple of months in and was never intending to leave it after three months - after nine months they happily upgraded me to a general work permit (though again I had to get a medical, X-ray and blood test and supply all sorts of forms indicating I was the only person who could do my job!) They tend to be fairly flexible. Anyway I can't imagine work as an extra would last longer than a few months at most, so a working holiday visa would probably be fine so long as filming started fairly quickly after the auditions; that could be the main problem for non-NZ residents. NZ Immigration has the details.

Wow... thank you all... I never realised how much would go into being an extra for a job like this, i feel much more enlightened now to everything id need to do. if they do allow open casting for extra's i wish you all the best of luck both with getting your work visa's and getting an extra's postition! ^_^
