So apparently Can't Post

this is a battle-focused EE, as if we haven't seen enough of that already and weren't in need of character moments for the dwarves, etc... I can only wonder why. Heard some great scenes had been cut. Shame. I did like the Dain vs Thranduil thing, though, that was really cool, but most other things included were pretty ridiculous (in a Hobbit trilogy-way). Did we really need more Legolas-hanging-from-a-bat? There were also barely any new Bilbo scenes... other than the one with Bofur, which was great, but I would've appreciated some more scenes like that. Are they planning something for a super extended edition or something?

Legolas hanging from a bat is the best part of the book!

The dwarvish character moments [In reply to] Can't Post

Were fused to the added battle moments, providing both at once.

Uhm [In reply to] Can't Post

Showing a few scenes of the dwarves doing stuff during the battle doesn't justify the overall lack of character moments for the dwarves to me. And I actually meant... quieter character moments, outside of battle. Turns out Bombur can actually talk, so why didn't he ever before, for example?

I think [In reply to] Can't Post

it was meant to be a special moment to Bombur. After 8 hours watching the trilogy, we finally get to see the silent fat guy speaking! Same for Bifur, the Crazy One.

Going purely by the numbers, the movies have the book trumped in this way [In reply to] Can't Post

In reality, there's only one character that is actually represented less in the films: Beorn.

15 mins 19 secs [In reply to] Can't Post

There is a 15 mins19 sec video montage of most of the new battle footage on YouTube. (I think the only sequence not included is the extended footage of Legolas and the bat). I will say one area the TE needed improvement was the final battle, but I do not feel it was in need of 15 min 19 sec of improvements.UnsureCrazy

To be honest, I feel this final EE was not an actual EE, but rather it was the TE as PJ had intended it to be. Still - though there it's been mentioned numerous times - I'm skeptical if there will ever be a super extended edition. I hope there is, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Wow [In reply to] Can't Post

Just 4 minutes for the rest of the movie. Unsure No wonder we didn't get so many great scenes that were filmed, and almost nothing new with Beorn. Pirate
I knew this would happen from the moment they announced that EE will be only 20 minutes longer. Mad

Yeah... [In reply to] Can't Post

and like I said that 15 mins 19 secs does not include every new (or extended) sequence added to the final battle. Come to think of it, I do not recall Beorn in the montage either.

I didn't watch the EE yet but less Beorn is a big disappointment :( [In reply to] Can't Post

"By Elbereth and Luthien the fair, you shall have neither the Ring nor me!" ~Frodo

"And then Gandalf arose and bid all men rise, and they rose, and he said: 'Here is a last hail ere the feast endeth. Last but not least. For I name now those who shall not be forgotten and without whose valour nought else that was done would have availed; and I name before you all Frodo of the Shire and Samwise his servant. And the bards and the minstrels should give them new names: Bronwe athan Harthad and Harthad Uluithiad , Endurance beyond Hope and Hope Unquenchable.." ~Gandalf, The End of the Third Age , from The History of Middle Earth series

The film NEEDED more battle!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

The film is 'the battle of te five armies', there is a huge (and near perfect) build up to the, yet passes by with barely a winker it seems. We've had plenty of character moments, in fact I think almost too many of the quiet, reflective or one on one moments compared to actual fighting and in particular a proper conclusion to the battle. It just peters out once the dwarves go to ravenhill. This is the first EE I have truly welcomed more battle!

What this film needed more [In reply to] Can't Post

Than character moments (which it has more of by the way) was a less choppy and more cohesive Battle [of the Five Armies] and more closure, which the EE definitely delivered on. Would I have liked to see more? Of course! But it definitely does not disappoint.

And by the way, despite what some of these posters are leading to believe, there is more Beorn in the EE than the TE.
