Rumor: Clive Standen on the List for Bard
|
Can't Post
|
|
Just when things seemed slow, we get a report on a possible casting rumor for Bard! The rumor comes from Ringer Enidan who suggests Clive Standen (Doctor Who, BBC Robinhood) is one of the names being considered for Bard in the upcoming Hobbit Films. Enidan writes:
I have heared that Clive Standen not Richard Armitage is on a list for Bard the bowma. They both appeared in BBC Robin Hood but Clive Standen who played Archer (Robin Hoods appropriately named brother) was an expert archer/swordsman and horseman. So it makes sense if you look him up on imdb you can see he is connected /Â linked to pirates of the Caribbean 4 so maybe he is in contention for the hobbit? I have not seen this list but i have a reliable source working in casting. Take it for what is is, a rumor. What do you think of the possiblities? Is Clive a good choice for Bard? Discuss it in our forums and let your voice be heard! [Wikipedia Listing] [IMDB]

First we had Mathew Goode, now Clive Standen... are things going on? I think this guy could be *the* perfect Bard. Hey, Guillermo, true or not true?

He looks a bit too young. I've always pictured Bard as a man in his late forties, early fifties. I think a different Clive (Owen) would be perfect for the role: the right age and the right amount of "grimness" (IMHO).
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit...

The picture you have used looks like a very old picture so that doesn't help us much - as he looks so much older in Robin Hood (check out youtube) but the pictures on the internet without a doubt scream Bard to me!!! for sure...he is pretty mean with a bow and arrow too its funny there is a video on youtube which almost could be his audition he looks that much in the middle earth world

god its like a richard Armitage fan site spamming these boards..its so obvious ..people are allowed an opinion without it having to resort to Armitage spamming!! Standen has the pysical prowess to pull off Bard so i would be happy with this choice and thought he was great in Robn Hood as was Richard I think Clive Standen would be a great choice for Bard actually and didn't think of it before but i do agree with alot of others that Richard Armitage is more Elvin with his look and is not right for Bard and think he would be more suited to playing Thranduil if anyone which would be a great part for him

your first point. But honestly don't like either of them for the role. Apart from looking far too young and (at the risk of offending the RA lobby) neither seem to have that certain je ne sais quoi a film hero should have, not to mention the all important "grim-face," which is all we really know of Bard's appearance. It's probably not worth getting too excited about the odd leaked audition since there are likely hundreds of actors and agents hitting the bricks right now.

Good choice...fits the mould...like that he is an unknown/up and coming instead of a big name

there is a lot of Spamming from Richard Armitage fan sites its like they are being urged to fill the lotr sites with pics of RA thinking it will get him the part! I think this Clive Standen could fit the Bard the bowman i imagined when i read the book...he seems rouged and tough and judging by the video on youtube he can ride a horse, fire a bow, et al. so that always helps I hope it goes to someone like Standen rather than a big name that's what made the LOTR trilogy so good that they were mostly all little known which made it about the story rather than the stars cast...Standen got my vote if i cant have Gerard butler

I kind of like Clive Standen and think there probably is a better role suited to him in the Hobbit...and actually with longer hair i could see him playing a bad ass warrior elf....after all they are pretty damn fine with a bow etc and Clive has more of the handsome youth of an Elf rather than the sullen face of Bard... Also in Robin Hood he has that cool Errol Flynn kind of charming arrogance going on which kind of fits the whole Elvish mentality..he would be a cool Elf so to sum up: Do think Clive Standen would be great in the Hobbit just not sure if Bard is the role he is best suited to

I thought he was pure magic in Robin Hood and new he would be on to bigger things... a lot has been said about him being the new lead (Orlando blooms replacement) in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 maybe he is going to do another Bloom connected role(i suppose he can do both as pirates starts quite soon and Hobbit wont start shooting till later in the year.. .I think Clive Standen is a great leading man and would love to see him in this.. some of the robin hood stuff he did was v impressive(and that is without the Hollywood budget) and i to am all for an unknown for this role

The "other" Clive (Owen) would be great, but this guy looks the part as well. So are they going to have any "names" at all in the movie? The only rumor that seems to hold any weight is Brian Cox as one of the dwarves (which is perfect IMO).

i think clive owen though a great actor is a little out of shape now and the days of king arthur are past him..This Clive can really pack some punch like Vigo did in the rings...cant imagine Clive Owen dealing with the shoot out in new zealand riding horses up mountains etc but i can with Standen i think we will get James Macavoy as our Frodo..i think that is a name and a lot of the remaining cast will be unknowns pretty much how LOTR was with only really elijah wood and liv tyler being house hold names and now they all are!

as I said before they need to bring in some good looking chap for the ladies to swoon over so I think he fits the bill, a hobbit and his dwarf mates are just not sexy so bard and maybe thandruil will be a replacement for aragorn, lego, boromir etc:)

Both by his statement and the director. Also there aren't a lot of horses in the story. Pack ponies at the beginning and Gandalf and the Dwarves get loaners from Beorn that only G. takes with him.

He seems like a good actor and would fit the part. Long as he could create a Bard that's close to the book, I would be happy. Much better picture, btw

When has Macavoy said he was out? As far as I can remember he's only said that he's in no way for sure in, but never have I heard that he's out. Not that I would complain if he did. Won't matter anyway... it won't be Macavoy. He's just not a good enough actor.

I basically don't think I will ever say: OMG that's the perfect actor for Bilbo/Thranduil/dwarf/Bard etc, until I see them in a trailer or in the movie. But I must say, in my opinion Clive Standen is pretty close to perfect. He's the right amount of handsome, mysterious and manly.... I did grow very fond of him in Robin Hood. But I have to really disagree with your suggestion of Clive Owen. I don't know- I just think he looks too serious or something. I mean, I haven't really seen him in that many films, so I'm not a good judge, (not that that would make me a perfect judge anyway!) but I personally would not get very excited if he was linked to the films.

I’ve read these boards daily for a year, and I don’t recall his name being repeated with enough emphasis that I’d noticed him (or anyone, really) being a favorite for Bard. I’m not sure who he is, though, so maybe I’ve read his name and it passed under my radar as not being important to me. Anyway, I see you’re a newly registered user. Welcome, and stick around for a more rounded picture.
