I started saving money in September 2013. I HAD $2 grand for awhile, but unfortunately life has gotten in the way, so I entered this contest - but didn't win. I really wanted to watch the final movie (Now Bo5A) in Wellington instead of the local IMAX. But I truly believe that I will make it next year. I found a trip for about $3 grand, and I think between the tax refund and my hubby's bonus that we should be able to go next year, either April or Sept/Oct 2015. It's not just the event, it's the country that I want to see. Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki, Paradise, and Marlborough on the South Island (not to mention Queenstown), and of course Hobbiton & Wellington. It's a beautiful country and would be amazing to see. It will probably just be me and the hubby, however, if anyone is interested maybe we could coordinate on travel plans. Just let me know!

I can't even be jealous as it's just so cool to see. What a fantastic day for them, and to end at the Green Dragon with the 4 dwarves and the trailer was just amazing (loved their reaction when they saw the dwarves). And per the note and pics on the home page, they even got fireworks in Hobbiton!

The place is genuinely unreal. It's difficult to take it.
I saved up for god knows how long and finally went to NZ for 3 months just after AUJ came out. January - March 2013. All the way from the tip of the North Island, to the coast of the South Island.
Anyone on here who wants to do it, has dreamed of doing it or thinks of it as some sort of unachievable dream - just go do it. I spent 3 months with the biggest smile on my face, experiencing landscapes i'd only even seen on film - amongst people of such genuine kindness. The place, the people, the films. Sell what you can and go - it's our heaven. Timeless Halls, for real.

I mean, I live in NZ so I can't complain too much. I've never actually been to the South Island before, but my friend from America is coming to visit in December in time for us to see the midnight premiere at the embassy theatre and also do a tour a bit like this one (but like a cheaper version because I'm a student haha)

I think you could hit the big places in 12 days. Fly into Aukland, down to Hobbiton (matamata), then Wellington, over to the south Island for Nelson and Queenstown. You'll just be pretty tired afterwards!
