Please -no cameo's!

Hello all! Now i know some of you will not agree with me here -but here goes... I really...REALLY hope there are no cameos in the hobbit or "bridge movie" -i think it cheapens the film with the whole "wink, wink nod, nod" bs. Now i'm not talking about p.jackson or bdt -i'm talking about cast members from the lotr trilogy! I don't see the need for it and have always found them to be annoying. The star wars prequels (Is it blasphemy around here to bring these movies up?) suffered from the need to throw in characters from the original trilogy when they weren't needed, and as such their parts were very under-written and felt out of place! What do you guys think? *Also (off topic) could anyone give me some info about their thoughts to do with kamal (sp?) and whether or not he could carry the weight of being the "main baddie" in the bride film? (should they decide to go with the whole white council/dol gulder storyline) Thanks :)

I think some characters of the LOTR should definitely be in there, specially aragorn, I think the second movie should focus on his story and gandalf and the white council dealing with the necromancer(sauron) I've always wanted to see aragorn(thorongil) on his early adventures helping the kingdoms of rohan and gondor, if GDT and PJ find a way to interconnect both storys into one cohesive narrative then it should work. Legolas can also be in there going with aragorn. After all they where friends before FOTR. They can change the attack on dol guldur until the second film or something so maybe in the final act gandalf and aragorn lead and attack o nthe fortress(with sauron having fled before leaving kamul to command the orc troops and other creatures into battle. Therefore having a good climax battle to the second film.

Also (off topic) could anyone give me some info about their thoughts to do with kamal (sp?) and whether or not he could carry the weight of being the "main baddie" in the bride film? (should they decide to go with the whole white council/dol gulder storyline) The name "Khamûl" is off-limits to the filmmakers, at any rate, as it is mentioned only in "The Hunt for the Ring" notes in Unfinished Tales. If they had access to that material, do you feel that the text presents enough of him as a character that a film version could have anything to do with Tolkien?

i agree, character cameos where not needed are awful, i don't get why lucas had to bring up characters like chewbacca in episode 3 , but peter's and lotr's crew cameos were really cool

a problem with Legolas being in 'The Hobbit', not as a main character but it is feasible that he would be in his father's halls at the time. As for the second film, it really depends how close to the FOTR it ends. Cameos for cameos sake I wouldn't like.

I am also against cameos, but I've got to agree with aragorn 500, it really depends on what the bridge movie is about. If it deals with characters like aragorn then viggo wouldn't be a cameo, instead he'd be a main character. but having Merry, Pippin, Frodo and Sam in the back ground during the Shire scenes would defiantly be a minus. To a certain degree I can see a small cameo of Legalos in the Mirkwood scenes work since it is his fathers kingdom and he was there during that time (he also played a larger role with gollum....is that material also off limits? I want to say it's from hunt for the ring, and if so it probably is...), but I would not want to see a one many army scene during the Battle of the 5 Armies

I think lack of writing ability had something to do with it.

But then, considering the hash that was Episode 3, Chewbacca was actually a welcome distraction.

Personally, I think Legolas NEEDS to be at his dad's halls--otherwise we either need to think he is out somewhere else fighting (or whatever). He'd have to be mentioned (for those who know that this is his home) or else seen. Why not have him in this? His part should not be large, though. As for the others, I guess it would be feasible to have Arwen visitng her dad when Bilbo gets there, although I believe she is supposed to be in Lothlorien. Again, not out of the range of possibility. Figwit could be there, too. But no big roles, please. The bridge movie is kind of fair game. Almost all of them could come back for that, and it wouldn't be jarring, if it doesn't follow a written book, only notes and appendices. Myself, I'd still kill to see Brandybuck Hall, and would welcome the opportunity to see that dramatized. That could bring back Merry. Don't know how they'd do that, though.
Hanging out with the Lonely Isle elves.
