Petition/Letter to PJ? Can't Post

I think that a petition/letter needs to be sent to PJ saying that fans are willing to wait for him to direct the movie. Like some others have pointed out, having a different team helm the movie could produce discontinuity, problematic shifts in character, and so on. Also, did anyone see Spiderman 3???? Anyhow, if anyone else is interested in this idea, please let me know b/c I'm way more interested in waiting for PJ. While that's more time for us to wait and get crazy/excited about it, I'd rather have a solid film that matches its predecessors than one that we can get our hands on earlier but that departs from the rest of the series. Any thoughts?

We may not have a choice [In reply to] Can't Post

I think NL and MGM need to move right now if they are to do this (and unfortunately that gives them less time than would probably be ideal for these two Hobbit movies) before their license to produce these movies is gone. IF there is a time limit that NL is working under then that means that Jackson is probably part of the project in the only capacity he can be, as an executive producer. Both parties probably figured that is better than nothing. His contractual commitments might be very hard to break, and Jackson probably does not want to. He's a professional and he would not be involved in Tin Tin or Lovely Bones, or Dam Busters, if he did not have a lot of interest/passion in them.

I hope I'm wrong about the NL time limit thing though. Like everyone else, I want the Hobbit to be the best it can be, and I don't want it to suffer from being rushed out without the best people behind it.

I'd be willing to join a petition, but I think it might be a good idea to also stress how much we trust his vision of Tolkien's world and want him to direct it. Hell, I'd love it if Fran Walsh directed and Jackson executive produced. Maybe we should consider suggesting such a thing?

Good point [In reply to] Can't Post

That's a good point a/b the rights. I completely forgot a/b that. And surely the price will go up considerably once they go back to whats-his-face. I guess what prompted my post was reading all of those articles where PJ was quoted saying that didn't want the fans to have to wait any longer than they have to. I guess that's what bothered me. If that were the only consideration, I would definitely say let us wait it out....we waited a long time for lotr and it was great, i think we can wait again. If it's an issue of rights, though, that's a little more complicated. If that's the case, I think it would be helpful if PJ, NL, MGM, and others being quoted on this right now articulated that this is an issue of rights as opposed to a "favor" that PJ has chosen to do the fans. i don't see him allowing the movie to be made sooner as a favor if it entails giving the director's chair over to someone else. i agree, however, that under these circumstances, we may not have a choice. *%*#4 Anyway, any more thoughts?

yes, we must [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, I think this is a good idea.
As a poll at www.theOneRing.net shows 76% of voters (total voters are currently about 4 500, and the poll go on) say -- 'YES! Of course! We are willing to wait for the release of The HOBBIT films so Peter Jackson can direct.'
So, this is the representative opinion poll by now. We want to see Peter Jackson as the Hobbit film director! and no other!
Peter, we're with You all the way!

I really don't know what the rush is... [In reply to] Can't Post

I mean clearly, doesn't PJ know that WE WANT him to direct BADLY?
Time isn't an issue fro us fans...i could wait 10 years...but i want PJ back at the helm ...of HIS HOBBIT.

Who's rushing this anyway?
New Line because they can't find a blockbuster that was LotR and is suffering financially because of it?

"By Elbereth and Luthien the fair, you shall have neither the Ring nor me!" ~Frodo

"And then Gandalf arose and bid all men rise, and they rose, and he said: 'Here is a last hail ere the feast endeth. Last but not least. For I name now those who shall not be forgotten and without whose valour nought else that was done would have availed; and I name before you all Frodo of the Shire and Samwise his servant. And the bards and the minstrels should give them new names: Bronwe athan Harthad and Harthad Uluithiad , Endurance beyond Hope and Hope Unquenchable.." ~Gandalf, The End of the Third Age , from The History of Middle Earth series

The rush is that [In reply to] Can't Post

we also want Sir Ian back as Gandalf. Yes, we have time for P.J. directing, as well as Andy Serkis reprising Gollum, but we can't take for granted that Sir Ian won't be semi-retired in another 10 years.

Once the movie goes "into production" [In reply to] Can't Post

the time limit is suspended. "In production" is a very loose term, and is easily met. Now that there's an agreement to make the movies, the time limit is irrelevant.

Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver.
`Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
`I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves.

details details [In reply to] Can't Post

so before we proceed with this, do we know that pj thinks he's doing us a favor or if it's an issue of the rights to make the movie being lost if they wait too long?
