So, they could both be right? [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think anyone would consider Ori a fighter, and definitely not a "fit" fighter, especially in AUJ, so I took Richard's comment to mean that of the fighters, Fili and Kili are the youngest.

I'm pretty sure that Adam Brown is a few years older than Aidan Turner, but definitely younger than Dean, so I guess in my mind (head canon) I still think of Kili as being the youngest - but I guess it could go either way.

a bit off-topic, but would you have any idea why PJ has changed Ori instead of Fili to be the youngest of the Company of the Dwarves in the movies?

As far as the Great Goblin was concerned when he said "Start with the youngest", [In reply to] Can't Post

Is it possible he thought Ori was the youngest because he was the shortest who didn't have grey hair, not to mention all the knitted clothes?

I can only guess, but maybe Jackson wanted Ori to be especially innocent and naïve. By the way, Kili was younger than Fili according to Tolkien's chart of the Line of Durin (although The Hobbit states otherwise and Tolkien never corrected that in the text).

Not to mention his choice of a slingshot as a weapon. Jackson could have at least let him have a more conventional (and effective) sling. The goblins should have had no way of knowing who was the youngest just off the tops of their heads. Ori looked the part, whatever was the truth of the matter.

If PJ specifically wanted Ori to be innocent and naive, I wonder if it was so that those of us who know that Ori dies horribly later on will feel even worse about it. That seems like something he'd do. Laugh

I thought Tolkien's canon was perfect and error-free. Guess not even Tolkien is perfect after all! Why people put so much pressure on PJ then?

Rhetorical question, by the way -- no need to answer. Wink
