Hello, I came across this web site: http://www.thehobbitblog.com/ . It's, that I know, a brand-new web site (never came up before for me, in my "Hobbit" searches). Regards, Kristy.
There should be women, in the 2 upcoming movies! There will be 2 movies and 2 awesome Epic Battles, in each of them! And I am not a bad guy. But I do like some of the Uruk-hai and Orcs.

Well Newline has been assimilated hasn't it? Looks to me that in 2009 the site will be gone. If you go to discussions there is a whole bunch of things happening. But it looks like a fairly small tight knit community at this point.
All the worlds a stage.

My guess is that in December 2009 the "official"-official website will go live and they'll drop the "blog" form the "official" Hobbitblog.

but I'd love to see it be another page of the official Lord of the Rings site. As long as they place a big ole link (an entry to another part of the world of Middle-earth) I guess I could be content.

I used to post a lot on there, but sort of entirely migrated over here... The fan base is much more family like here, than there. Also the site lay out is annoying and dark... I dislike the blog idea.

Yeah, I signed up when it launched, and post there every now and then, but like ringbearer9 said the layout and design are a little annoying. I imagine that site is merely designed to generate buzz unitl the "official" Hobbit movie site is ready. I'm not really one to post a lot on message boards...so I will choose the quality of this site over that one any day. Unless there is just some really good discussion that I feel would benefit from my two-cents that is...

I'm on a couple of other sites, not really LOTR related, but a lot of them have dark layouts to make them look "cooler" or something- and honestly, it does, at first glance! But it makes navigating my way around a *lot* more tedious, I think, as well!! (and you're right, it's tough to find a site *as* friendly as TORn!)

Glad you found your way here - it is a great place to be! And with all the Hobbit news, we have so much extra fun here! Thak you very much! I'm a LONG-TIME vistor/reader of this site I posted on the old board years ago...probably less than 10 times. And I have about 15 or so posts on the current board under a different username. I've just found that I like to contribute a little more than I used to. One thing I generally dislike about message boards is the holier-than-thou/elitist/I-know-more-than-you/you're-not-part-of-the-club attitudes that usually accompany them hand-in-hand. I could never figure out why people thought they "knew-more" or were "bigger fans" simply because they posted regularly on a message board...it was a big turn-off. But with this site, I don't really see that happening that much. So yeah... It only took 8 years+ of visiting the site before I became a semi-regular poster! Ha!

Ah yes, I know what you mean. Have watched this behaviour at other boards as well - and it has put me off. Why should someone who has read LotR after FotR came out and joined an online community be a bigger fan than someone who has read the books many times for many years, but found the online community only lately? And how do you measure 'being a fan' anyway? Well, I knew a few people in another fandom who confused quantity with quality - the more posts, the more a fan they are, or so they think. Even if these posts consist mainly of intellingent remarks like "XY is soooo cute!!!" or even only "*LOL*" And I suppose these are everywhere. But I prefer real discussions. Was myself a long-time lurker and only some months ago finally had enough courage to sign up. Discussing with people who know so much more than I about Tolkien seemed a bit intimidating at first But I was welcomed very nice and already feel at home here. Hope to see more from you here

Exactly...everyone's experience is different, and for someone to judge another's love or passion for something by the number of posts they have on a message board...I believe is missing the point and mis-directing their "fandom". That's ultimately the turn-off of message boards for me. Again, thanks for the kind words...and by the way, I love your signature/quote!

I thought there'd be more to it. Maybe even more posts, y'know? Oh well, TORn has everything I need.
"WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN" Did you ever wish certain moments from LOTR could've made it to the screen? Have you ever imagined what would have happened if all of the original writings from the script actually made it to the films? Well, "What Could Have Been" is the right discussion for you! Starting this summer will be a series of topics about what could have been in "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy". Be on the lookout, and be sure to join in on the fun!
