Was theonering.net existing on the lord of the rings movie times? I would like to see what the reactions to the traiers, TE, and EE were. Thanks.

But it was a different messageboard platform that I'm guessing was not archived. The original messageboard only showed 30 days worth of activity; everything older "rolled off." Back in the Olden Days bandwidth and data storage were expensive. If you are wondering if people reacted passionately and strongly to every detail of LotR, the answer is YES. There were several very hot topics: the changes to Faramir so he initially seems "evil," the rumor (which turned out to be true) that Arwen was going to be in the battle of Helm's Deep, the elimination of the Old Forest and the Scouring of the Shire. At this point the only things about LotR that make me cranky are the "Sam ate all the lembas" scene, and Denethor's fiery plunge (instead of being buried in the tomb as it collapsed in flames).

but due to complicated server reasons, some was lost along the way, most of the rest of it's just not reachable or searchable by the average user anymore, and it would take far too much time and resources to retrieve it. It's a bit like trying to find the Straight Road, really...
Silverlode Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known.

wandered around the Old TORN site archive? It holds what was salvaged from the great server disaster. You can't access some things, but you can still read old news articles, look through the old scrapbook images (tons of articles and pictures and other items of interest) and TORN-produced stuff like the Spy Reports, Green Books and such. The Ringer Reviews themselves are gone, or at least no longer accessible (there once were about 35,000 total over the three films) but the composite ratings are still viewable. FOTR TTT ROTK That can at least give you some idea.

Just click on the date. This site has worked for me for other websites. http://web.archive.org/web/*/www.theonering.net I wasn't even a lurker on these boards when LOTR came out, but I read the main page since before filming began.
