Shadow on the left [In reply to] Can't Post

Looks like the Lonely Mountain to me.

Can't wait to see some other character posters! They are teasing Thorin and Gandalf at the moment... Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

Ah... [In reply to] Can't Post

Not too sure, but it seems the scene is a battleground with marching orcs (see the helmets and the flags) amidst a load of ruins. So probably just a ruin I guess.

I like the flaming missiles being flung across the background though!

So for the question of fire on the banner [In reply to] Can't Post

Flaming missiles looks the more obvious answer than necro-smaug?

Do you mean the black standard? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd say it's a standard of the Orc army.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Billy Connolly's name isn't listed among the credits here? Crazy

No. [In reply to] Can't Post

It's all about marketing. Poster credits never contain an exhaustive list of all actors in the film. They usually list the main characters, plus the big stars of the movie. Sylvester McCoy wasn't listed for DOS or BO5A, for instance.

Maybe [In reply to] Can't Post

But Billy Connolly is a bigger name than McCoy in all fairness. In any case I'm surprised to not see him listed here, especially with him being a new character.

Why? [In reply to] Can't Post

Do you mean that such an image shouldn't exist or that it gives undue prominence to that aspect of Bilbo's character?

I too am thinking this [In reply to] Can't Post

A set of character posters akin to the ones we got for "Return of the King"

since for ROTK there was the main poster

then an Aragorn one with Anduril, a Gollum one, a Frodo and Sam one, Gandalf, and then Arwen. So a good number of character posters seems to be in keeping with ROTK

Voting for Gandalf or Thorin next. Probably one a day-ish, so tomorrow or the day after Smile My bet is that Throin wins.

In a way... [In reply to] Can't Post

... this poster is a good symbol of this changed, expanded and embellished version of TH .

For those who dislike a lot in this trilogy this will stand for all that is wrong with these movies.

For others all that makes this movies interesting and engaging.

As in my case it stands for what I always wished the book was and I am happy therefore (despite my issues with these movies... Which mostly are filmmaking flaws imo though, no Tolkien or change issues).

"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien

We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

I can't work out whether the issue would be [In reply to] Can't Post

The interpretation of Bilbo fighting at BOFA (which unless I am forgetting a quote somewhere seems reasonable one) or that the poster is emphasising this over the other things that Bilbo does in the final stages of the story, as a marketing and visual focus.
