Back here in the 'sunny' old UK James McAvoy, GDT and PJ's first choice for Bilbo will be doing an interview this friday with Johnathan Ross on BBC 1 10.35pm. Hopefully should include a few questions regarding The Hobbit as the our press has been full of the McAvoy being first choice for The Hobbit news. Just thought i'd let you guys know! Thanks Tedster!

unfortunately, if you live outside the UK, you cant get the broadcast becasue BBC.One doesnt allow the download - so maybe you could fill us in if you get the cance? (maybe it depends on your 'puter - but I did go to the info page and check, and it didn't allow it) ... The other thing is that Guillermo has denied the rumours of James McAvoy's name being a choice for the Hobbit (on the ITN Showbiz Interview on YouTube) ... the thread is below in this forum .... and as yet, we have no idea who the 'choice' is that Guillermo is talking about .... so Im not sure James can add anything to that seeing that Guillermo has denied it. But I think the interview would be interesting to listen to anyway .... Thanks for the info tedster! Cheers Elven
Were off to Hobbiton finally! Tolkien was a Capricorn!! Russell Crowe for Beorn!!

I don't want to offend anyone here, but is all this "James McAvoy" hype starting to get really annoying?

GDT himself said that wasn't the case, here on TORN. Forgive me, but I'm going to go with the director over an unnamed source. I'm a journalist myself and I know that often anonymous sources are accurate, but I also know that standing the story up with on the record comment is pretty crucial. Obviously the press wants the story, but until GDT comes here and tells us who his Bilbo is I'm going to be sceptical. Sorry.

Well your source could be right, but I'm not a fan of the British Press. They are AWFUL. No offence to your dad. I work in an industry that is awful too, its not a personal criticism. The media is too sensationalist. They will create stories to sell papers and get ratings when the truth is too boring. I think that is the case right now. GDT is not deciding on a Bilbo until the end of the year, so the media is fishing for something and shouting out they have a bite to try and get some attention. I'm skeptical, but that comes from experience.

IMDB that. Rumors are fun, but some of the more "official" places need to rein it in a bit until the Man himself speaks.

IMDB is horrible too. I am working on a book about voice actors and I have interviewed many of the greats. Including Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger), Frank Welker (Fred from Scooby, among a million other characters), Michael Bell (Rugrats), Charlie Adler (Buster Bunny), etc... Nearly all of them laughed when I talked the heights that were listed for them on IMDB, along with other "facts" that site lists. Michael Bell in particular pointed out how bad IMDB was and that many of his actor friends were incorrectly listed. Peter Cullen for example (voice of Optimus Prime) is listed like 6'5 or something close to that, and he is in fact under 6' tall. There were a lot of inconsistencies that were pointed out and I stopped using IMDB when I could avoid it. I was using books as my chief ref material anyone for my interviews. The problem with IMDB (and Wikipedia to a lesser extent) is that anyone can sign up for an account and input data and often these people don't have real facts to work from, just hearsay or supposition.

It's Hollywood Tradition to have rumors flying around.

Expecially during the waiting periods when there isn't any news to be had. Rumors abound. Hollywood has a long, long Histry of of. Some the teh greatest films of all times have had ridiculously insane ideas or for casting before casting was confirmed. The only thing I know for sure is that they won't do any any casting until the script is finished and that won't be untill next year. They both said so in their live chat 2 weeks ago, and GDT said so here. live chat: Weta Transcript http://www.wetanz.com/...p?itemid=695&catid=2 The One Ring.net (TORn) Transcript http://www.theonering.net/...unexpectedpartychat/ The only people they for sure want to cast for now are two characters that are carry- overs from LotR: Gandalf & Gollum. Ian Holm is out as as an option. For Bilbo and all other characters, we are in a wait and see mode until next year. They have to develop the character on paper before they cast. That is only smart planning and smart business. After they have made these statements, anything you hear in the press is only Rumor-mongering until and only until you herar it directly from them. Then, that is Hollywood Tradition... just grin and smile and take a few deep breaths... we havev a long wait ahead that only patience & a smile will carry us though. Film making is a long ardous process, not an instant one. But stick around, you could well hear it here first who Bilbo will be. I don't mind if it is McAvoy, I'm a fan since the Last Kng of Scotland. McAvoy awards: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0564215/awards

Submitted for everyone's approval - Has anyone seen TopGear or Brainiac?

Seriously, I'd like to recommend Richard Hammond. He's cute, British, and well, Hobbit-like (short - at least I assume that's why they nicknamed him "Hamster"). If anyone has ever watched either TopGear or Brainiac, you know he's got an infectious personality. I also think he's closer to Bilbo's age in the book than McAvoy is. A little bit closer anyway. A little bit of curly hair... Some hairy feet...

Yep, I used to watch Top Gear all the time. Hamster as Jeremy Clarkson calls him is super small, so he definitely has the height credentials for Bilbo. And he also has that sort of nervous wide-eyed Bilbo thing going on which would be great for the Quest of Erebor. I'm not sure of his acting ability. Has he ever acted in anything? As far as I know he is just a TV show presenter. He's presented a lot of things including the much missed Time Commanders game show. *sigh*. Wish they had done some LOTR battles on that show. I wouldn't be entirely opposed to the idea of Hammond as Bilbo. I'm not opposed to McAvoy or Freeman either. But I do hope they can find someone who is closer to the book Bilbo physically. I have yet to see any good photos of Ian Holm's son Barnaby. Can anyone post some?

let all those "out there" get into a tangle with their rumors . You wouldn't believe how thankful I am for TORN. It is fun to speculate, but if it wasn't for this site all I/we would have is the looney "celebrity" press to feed us fans.....at least here we can come up with our own ideas and bat them around each other and have fun with it too!

Whoever ends up being casted as Bilbo, I think it's great that the casting for this major role will be a boon for shorter actors.
