"Hobbit" Release Dates?
|
Can't Post
|
|
Wanted to see if anyone could add their thoughts on the release dates for "The Hobbit" and the second movie. Originally they were pegged to be released in late 2010 and 2011 and that still may be the case. Many of the latest news releases are now saying 2011 and 2012, though I have read some news reports that are sticking with the original 2010 / 2011 dates, though whether that is from having better knowledge or out of ignorance, I'm not sure. To me, the most important thing is to take the time needed to due both movies with the passion and love that PJ brought to "Lord Of The Rings". My question would therefore be: is there enough available time left to meet those standards for a 2010 release date? And is that still the plan? Or are we resigned to pretty much expect the first movie in 2011? Of course, the best of all worlds is that the original 2010 date can be made without sacrificing any of the quality that Del Toro, Jackson and Walsh would insist upon for any of their films. As I don't know the answer to that, was hoping you brilliant people (or if he's so inclined, Mr. Del Toro himself) could fill in the blanks. I suspect it's more likely that it will be a 2011 release - which would not be the best news for those of us anxiously waiting for years. But that's still better than the studio wanting to rush the film for a 2010 (if it needs to be rushed) release and take the chance of the quality suffering. Thoughts?

I think comes from a couple of things which Guillermo has mentioned latesly and it maybe speculation that the movies will take longer than the planner scedule first thought. GdT said that there is at least a year and a half of pre-production for the films - if they are doing them simultaneously or back to back, this maybe the reason - and he has mentioned that when he moves to NZ he will be going there for at least 5 years (half a decade) of his life, for these films. He also has to complete and tie up his current film due for release mid-year, and then he has to physically make the move to Middle-Earth. Looking at the timeline from where we are now - possibly it maybe a later than first thought - heck, I speculated we'd would maybe see the second one out in the threatres in 2014... and we'd be getting the EE's in 2015 ... But its a good question - I have seen this mentioned as well - lots of different release dates - and until I hear something official - no one is sure. ... and , that's provided there are no delays during filming - legal or otherwise. Cheers
Were off to Hobbiton finally! Tolkien was a Capricorn!! Russell Crowe for Beorn!!

Elven has good points about the release dates, to add… IMDB (and other sources) has been listing the films 2010 for about a year, maybe longer. If you have been keeping up with the news, the films were in serious jeopardy. Nothing could go ahead until a director was signed and all the powers that be were on board. Generally, how it goes, since I keep up with movies, is that a vague advance date gets set. That is usually after a director gets assigned. Often that date is just a preliminary date. A lot depends on funding and studio support. A lot depends on who they cast and their schedules. A lot depends on distribution. A lot depends on the size of the movie and what technology is involved. This film promises to make advances in technology… so there is that… they have to develop new techniques. A lot depends on the movie gods, if you know what I mean. Anything can happen during production, which has different phases: pre-production, filming, post-production. The thing to bear in mind is that all release dates for any film are considered "pending" while in any phase of production. IMDB includes this note with every film: "Because this project is categorized as being in production, the data is subject to change; some data could be removed completely." It used to say "Because this project is categorized as being in production, The date could change…" What they are saying is that anything could change: cast, for instance. This note is included with all movies. Films production is collaborative, involving lots of people and is a constantly changing thing. Things happen. Anything can happen. With this film, the date was named before the director got assigned, before the PJ suit was settled, Before Newline dissolved, before a script was written. Now that GDT is signed, then they can go ahead with marching plans. But, since a year or two has passed since that original date was posted, a later date seems much more likely considering the type of production it is and all that will be involved. Once they really get the wheels in motion and a script completed — they have no script yet — then a well-considered date should be announced. But even that date could change, or so it is with all films. For now, 2010 or 2011, either one are just vague dates named with guesswork and hope, a distant target to aim at. Certainly, no date will mean anything before a script is written. All of this is not even considering the legal issues hanging over the whole thing. The production can be completely halted… halted for good if some judge says so. So for now I plan to just relax and enjoy the ride and be happy that we now have an official director and tings can finally start move forward. We will hear what hear when it is there to hear it. Last night I posted a serious set of links about GDT and for keeping up here The Hobbit at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/ The Hobbit 2 at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1170358/ Guillermo del Toro at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0868219/ DoN

Considering the news was released and confirmed yesterday that the first film for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in November 2010. ( I forgot the exact day), so if WB / NL stick to their intentions and all goes well with The Hobbit , they could have a record-breaking two months with those two films alone.

its official announcement stated: "With Del Toro blocking out four years for the project, it’s likely that the studios are aiming at starting shooting next year and releasing the films in late 2011 and 2012." Del Toro has to complete his work on HellBoy II and some other things and so I don't think this will get moving big time until late fall of this year or early winter of next year. I would rather have them not rush things and do this right and have it come out in 2011 and 2012.

Precisely because of Deathly Hallows...

It's likely it'll be 2011 for The Hobbit. Deathly Hallows Part 1 November 2010, Part 2 June 2011, The Hobbit December 2011 and the sprequel either june or december 2012. Talk about two great years! They won't compete against themselves in winter 2010. And then comes Here, there be Dragons... but that's another story. Warner is easily becoming the home of fantasy by excellence.
Here's to Del Toro becoming the Irvin Kershner of Middle Earth! Essay winner of the Show us your Hobbit Pride Giveway!

I thought it wast the Half Blood Prince up next isn't it? I think 2010 is way to short of time for them to complete the Hobbit. I'm thinking 2012-2013 at least.

that both series (HP and LotR/Hobbit) began the same year, and will most likely end the same year. There's just something "right" about that :)
