...it's mentioned in a partially-illegible passage of a note written on the back of a pub coaster after a few pints in 1933. Apparently Hobbits could put in, adjust, and take out their contact lenses using only their tongues. Really. It's included in The Non-existent Tales, edited by his uncle's wife's next-door-neighbor's cousin, R. J. J. Talking. I'm surprised a fan like you has never heard of it!
