Gandalf's staff

People DO realize that Saruman took Gandalf's staff at the beginning of FOTR, and the staff he's carrying around for the rest of the movie is a different staff, NOT Radagast's? I remember back when FOTR came out PJ saying in either the commentary or in an interview when asked how Gandalf got his staff back from Saruman that it's a different staff. If you look the shape is even different.

I thought that was well known. They do not even look the same, and the second staff has a crystal that fits in it for the Moria scenes. He had two staffs in the Hobbit, and three in LOTR. Lost or broke all of them.

I'm so glad they explained in the BOTFA EE appendices why Radagast's staff that he gives to Gandalf looks different at the beginning of FOTR than it did when Radagast had it. It was one of those little things that puzzled me, but the answer was so simple I should have noticed it - all the little twigs on the end got broke off during the battle of five armies when Gandalf was fighting. Mystery solved.

It looks exactly the same as the FOTR staff after the battle in BOTFA too. Look at the scene where Gandalf is cleaning his pipe while sitting beside Bilbo.

I guess when I watch that scene I'm always so focused on Bilbo and Gandalf. So now I'm wondering - what happened to the blue stone. I guess it fell out somewhere and some lucky Laketowner will pick it up and have a great paper weight.

I guess he returned it to Radagast for a refund.

Gandalf has another white staff at the Grey Havens. When he got this one is anyone's guess.
