Gandalf and Thranduil. A friendship and interaction I hope to see.

We have seen plenty of the Wizard with know it all Elves, but here is one both majestic and good hearted, but also much more flawed and relatable. In the books he is very fond of Gandalf, and I very much hope we will see the Wizard in his tent cautioning and giving Wise council. Bet you guys thought Hamfast wrote this. Lol. Nay, Tis I, AinurOlorin.
"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

perhaps because he's Legolas' father... ..or perhaps because Mirkwood seems like a much more down to earth kind of place, i mean, really, they're partying in the woods around campfires with leaves in their hair, getting drunk on wine in the cellars, riding out to hunt, heaving barrels into the river while singing sea shanties... geez, it sounds like Pennsylvania... all they need is some deer rifles... I also like the Thrandy line: "Long will I tarry ere I begin this war for gold..."
Go outside and play...

Though I think they would find the rifles terribly unsporting. lol. All the more do I hope to see the pair together, and perhaps hear Thranduil's line telling the Wizard that the more often he visits, the merrier the Elven halls will be.

...in the book starts out as not very nice, to me. He seems just as obstinate as the Dwarves in some ways. But then at the end, with that line "Long will I tarry..." he wins me over. I would like to see him with Gandalf (and Bard, too), how they discuss their situation and what the best thing to do would be. And yes, Mirkwood sounds like the party place in Middle Earth.

has been endlessly memed and cartooned by fans... I've found a lot of stuff on tumblr... it's amazing how a single line (in book or film) or one image takes off... I'm an Elf fan since 1978 when I first read LOTR... I'm not sure what I think of how Thranduil looks (from the stills)(though Lee Pace is quite Elvish in his mundanes). I'll have to see how the character comes together in the films.
Go outside and play...

I can't see Thranduil and Gandalf having much screentime. I imagine Gandalf will turn up late to the Battle (like all the other times in The Hobbit), so we won't see any interaction between the two characters.

in The Hobbit. I always felt sorry for the dwarves for being held captive by him and then felt him going to demand gold and treasure was wrong. I think it was mostly his fault, lol, for why i disliked elves for quite a while in M-e - had a dwarvish grudge against them, lol. Saying all that it would be nice to see some scenes with Gandalf and Thranduil though i can't imagine them having much screen time together - too many other things going on at that point in the movie i think.

I didn't like Thandruil (or the other Wood Elves) of the book much. The Wood Elves were rather silly from what I can remember of the book, and Thandruil appeared mean (though can't remember exactly why). However, in the film I liked the 'cold', beautiful, very elvish look of Thandruil (he looks more like an Elf to my mind than any other of PJ's Elves). (The Pliocene Elk is magnificent, and such a wonderful idea for the film.)

... that episode is one I really took a long break from while reading the Hobbit for the first time. Several times some aspects did not work for me at all. Glad we will get another take at it via the movies.

as you say, but I hope to see something. The real gold to be mined here is Gandalf interacting with more of ME, watching him at work. I would watch a whole film titled The Travels of Gandalf. Followed by The Road through Moria, the First Journey. Oh I could keep going here. And of course Finding Gollum.... Ok stopping now. We know what to look for. When I see the word Gandalf, its like a sign in the sky, "Ainur-Olorin is here...."

We have seen him interact with the Kings of Men and of Dwarves, and with the Elven Wise. We see that Legolas has an obvious love, reverence and concern for him (I have not the heart to tell you. For me the grief is still too near), both in the books and in the films. Yet for all that their interaction is limited. It would be very good here to see, if only for a few spare minutes, Gandalf giving his counsel to the Elven King, and Thranduil, for all his majesty and elegance, giving respectful consideration to the words of the seemingly humble Wizard. And, of course, their is the return journey, and the kind words there spoken. As Sir Ian said of Gandalf, "he has been around for so long, he has been everywhere and he knows everybody.". This would be a great way of underlining that. He is friends with all parties among the Free peoples, including parties deeply estranged from one another, and his counsel held in regard by Dwarven heirs and Elven kings alike. as you say, but I hope to see something. I'm right there with Legolas when Gandalf the White uncloaks........ And I have to say my friend I am happily, expectanly, impatiently waiting to see two of my ultimate favorite charactars together onscreen - Gandalf and Beorn! That will be an immense moment for me!
