Exclusive New GDT Interview

This one was with IGN and has new updates. For example, Guillermo was mentioning in previous interviews that if they don't have a story for the second movie, then it won't happen (which I admire). However, he's a bit more confident now that they may have it: IGN: What about the second film? What kind of stories will be told in that bridge film? GDT: That's the film that has to be found and constructed carefully for many, many reasons, not just logistic ones. It has to feel relevant, connective, and seamless. That is the film that most belongs as a joining effort to the trilogy. That is the film we work the hardest on in the next six months. There are many more questions than there are answers. In my heart of hearts, I believe we found a way to do it. I'm not being coy, I'm not faking it. I don't want to spoil it. I really think we found it, but I'm not at liberty or at a place where I feel it should be discussed. He also has a tantalizing comment about the first Hobbit movie: "I think you will see a lot of stuff you have never seen; not just outside the trilogy, but in the history of cinema." (Italics by me) You can read the rest of the article here: http://movies.ign.com/...es/887/887584p1.html

From Den of Geek...
Speculation had been rife on the Internet across the past few days that the much-anticipated big screen version of The Hobbit would, contrary to original plans, be cut down to one movie rather than two. The suggestion had been made that because of restrictions over what the film makers had the rights to actually use where the book itself was concerned (i.e. the book, and nothing else), the project may have to be curtailed else a potentially huge rights bill would be added to the budget. Speaking to Guillermo del Toro last night, as part of an exclusive Den Of Geek interview that you can read next Tuesday on the site (and the man is as friendly and passionate in conversation as his reputation foretells), we asked him if there was any truth in this, and whether the second film was in any doubt: “Absolutely, categorically not to my knowledge. There’s going to be a second film, but the shape of what it is and how it happens will be determined by the process. I’m afraid that whenever I try to vary an answer to a question, I end up getting in hot and boiling water because people just put a headline on it! If I say I’m feeling sick, or I have the flu, the headling is Del Toro Sick! The Hobbit Cancelled!” You heard it here first, folks... if and when GDT gets the flu, the Hobbit is history... unless it's the Avian Flu... then it just flies north to J.J. Abrams' house.

If I say I’m feeling sick, or I have the flu, the headling is Del Toro Sick! The Hobbit Cancelled!” He hit the nail on the head with that! Poor guy, he truly has to treat very careful and to watch what he's saying. Every nuance of the same statement will create new headlines, usually contradicting the earlier ones.
I do not suffer from LotR obsession - I enjoy every minute of it.

I'm with you on Hugh Bonneville for Bilbo, but... isn't Brian Blessed too old? If not, he would make a great Beorn!

That's great. The sooner everyone gets to know, the better. I am really glad he sounds more confident about it now. Deep down, and for different reasons, everyone wants to see the second film.

that the personalities and talent and imagination of those 4 people (PJ/PB/FW/GdT) could NOT work out a quality story for Film2. It's, like, the payoff for all those years of work and the challenges they faced (PJ/PB/FW). Now having the chance to finish the job with the fresh blood and spirit of GdT in the mix... forget about it! It's going to happen. Trust :)
