Empire magazine?

Hello, Hmmmm I have to question things now. That Empire magazine that was "supposed" to come out today, having valuable "The Hobbit" information wasn't out in my local mall's book store (sells alot of magazines too). $18 dollar taxi ride and back with nothing. From, Kristy.

"let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages." I guess you'd better call next time. Good luck! I know that's gotta hurt!

Can't say if it was out at all, as I'm German. But I hope you have more luck next time! It had to be terribly frustrating to go to so much trouble to get there and then have to leave with empty hands. *comforting hug* Btw, welcome! I hope you have fun here.

But I wouldn't fret too much. I don't think Empire has any big scoops that haven't also made their way here. I think TORN probably has the most up to date Hobbit movie news, as a bunch of stuff has come out this week that's been purely speculative, much of it refuted by Guillermo del Toro in this forum. If you're in the US, I've often found that imported mags may show up a day or two later than sceduled at B&N or Borders. Frustrating for us fans - they have no idea.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, this web site has alot of information. >:-D Wow, Guillermo comes to the message boards and/or posts?? Did not know he did that! Wow. Really nice of that guy, to come to this web site (heard him mention this web site, several times, on that W.E.T.A. Online chat thing). And really eh? Awww, man, that sucks. I'm definitely gonna call, ahead of time, now, to check if they have it, yeah.

You are officially *really* a Fan. Reminds me of the time I walked 3 miles to a record store when I was in college to pick up an album; they had it, but I nearly got run over on the way back b/c I had it on the headphones and was singing along and zoned out, and stepped into traffic without looking this would make a great thread BTW...."what is the most extreme thing you've done Tolkien-wise?"

I'm not sure where you are, but here in the States it can take a couple of weeks (minimum) to get a new issue after it's released in the UK. You could always call your local bookshop and ask them to call you when it comes in, to save another cab ride!

"...and back again."

Look for the user 'Guillermo' - that's GDT himself! IIRC, his last post was in the thread about McAvoy, Black and Radcliffe ('So apparently the choices ...') a bit further down in this forum; when you click on his name, you'll get to his profile, then scroll down to the 'show all posts' button at the left, and you can read everything he has told us. Calling is a good idea, yes, particularly when you have to take a taxi again!

I fear the most extreme I have done was reading RotK at work (it was my very first reading and I had to go to bed the night before worrying about Faramir!). But as we couldn't work anyway because all the computers refused to work and they took hours to find the problem and get them running again, it was not so extreme at all

that all of us first get their noses out of the books. I am working in a big library But yes, there are a few ways to pass the time at work very creative (and so *much* more useful!!) when servers are down or the power out or the like.

lol I will! But I don't know what it'll have in it. It's a magazine. I'm just saying that it could. I'm going by what this web site said, about the "Friday" Empire magazine edition having "Hobbit" info. lol

Tehre is not a one-size fits all on when they how up at the newsstands. I run into this all the time. I get EW by subscription. It sows up in my mail box days before teh newstand. I send out emails to all my Tolkien group on common interests (LotR Cast member news, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Lost, Narnia, etc). Sometimes, freinds have write back fretting about it not being at the store. I have spoken to proprieters at Borders & B&N about this... They say there really isn't any consistency when the come in. Some stores int eh same area, will get the at different time. Even in my mail, I get them most of the time on Friday, but sometime not till Monday, or later. Yours should show up int the next day or two. Let your fingers to the walking, so to speak and call them ahead of time.

I got my hands on the June issue of Empire today, (the one with The Hulk on the cover) and there was not one word about The Hobbit. Zip. Nada. They must mean the July issue?

Doesn't surprise me. That had the stupid "Hulk". The next edition will have the "The Hobbit"/Hobbit-related picture on its front.

...given the deadlines for print media, you will get your most up to date news from websites. By the time news comes out in Empire it will have been reported on their website and here for quite some time. You can always pick up extra little tidbits here and there but for now TORN is probably you're best clearing house for info.

Of COURSE I get my most up to date stuff online . But Empire magazine was an enthusiastic LOTR supporter and their write-ups on the films were some of the best stuff around, and as good as anything you'd find online. I still have their "Farewell Album" issue dedicated to LOTR from spring of 2004. And a year later they did a profile of the films as historical artifacts of world cinema, a 10-pg or so article that has not, IMO, since been replicated in American print media. It's the kind of thing that may have inspired someone like Kristen Thompson to write a book, if she hadn't been working on one already....a pity there have not been more articles like it. For example, I first discovered the works of Sergei Bondarchuk after reading that article.....(Jackson's LOTR was compared to Bondarchuk's 1964-67 Russian masterpiece adaptation of War And Peace) So Empire may be slow, but when they get going, they're worth a trip to the bookstore, if there aren't scans online.
