Dominic Cooper? Can't Post

So...

Casting is surely imminent and I reckon we're in for some surprises. I think we all know that we're pretty much 100% unsure who Bilbo is going to be. All the previous frontrunners with the exception of Martin Freeman have either ruled it out or are currently scheduled to appear in other projects. This got me thinking...Dominic Cooper, very slight, round features, far apart eyes, cheeky face...could he be the new Hobbit on the block?
For those of you who might not know him his first big role was in the play 'History Boy's' on the West End & then Broadway and he has since starred in several BBC period dramas, Mamma Mia, The Duchess and the current Oscar contender An Education. He's certainly a star on the rise...

The only reason I would pause and say no way is...GDT said they had a very clear idea who they wanted to play Bilbo quite some time ago and I'm not sure when that was said if Dominic would have been on their radar enough.

Just some food for thought!

kind of youngish [In reply to] Can't Post

The real Bilbo was a nice, not slight, middle-aged hobbit. I hope and hope TPTB keep to this fact (despite the 33 year old Frodo was about 19).

It has long been my position that I want the movie made, I can't do it, so I'm glad someone else can. Doesn't mean that we can't voice our opinions!

side note - the spell checker knows how to spell "Bilbo" but not "Frodo".

yeh I agree [In reply to] Can't Post

when I say 'slight' I mean he's got a small build...as in he hasn't got big broad shoulders etc like you'd expect men and elves to have... it would be easy enough to make him a little portly...gaining weight, padding etc... But this would be great for establishing the different sizes, although i know they'll use smaller doubles and trick shots to establish this when filming...

Also although he looks quite young Dominic Cooper is actually 31...which is around the age i think this casting could be...again make-up could physically age him but he's certainly not actually too young to play the older Bilbo

One of the few actors I actually put above Robert Pattinson on the "Uhhhgh! Scale". [In reply to] Can't Post

And that's probably all I can get away with saying on the board.
No. Just. No.

I dont necessarily think he's right... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm just throwing some names out there of some true up & coming British stars and at the moment he very definitely fits the bill...

The names constantly mentioned over the last 2 years have been the same and it's shaping up that all the favourites are currently scheduled to be in other projects...so I think it's time to start thinking outside of the box!!!

I think... [In reply to] Can't Post

or at least I would hope...
that if they've had someone in mind for a good while now, that they would make darn sure that person is going to be available
and able to commit to their filming schedule...
I just find it hard to believe that they would leave the casting of their main character (which in my opinion is as important to the film as
having Ian McKellan reprise Gandalf) down to the very last minute...
I have a hunch they've either had the actor of their desire at least in mind for some time, if not cast already, and are with exceptional reason,
so crucially secret about who it is...
