Casting...as the Hobbit Can't Post

Hi, everybody! I'm new here, so please forgive me if my question is a repeat of earlier stuff.

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but what is your opinion of casting Daniel Radcliffe as young Bilbo in "The Hobbit"? I think the "family resemblance" between Dan and Elijah Wood is interesting, and rather striking, too.

What are your thoughts?

Too young [In reply to] Can't Post

Remember Bilbo is 50 years old in The Hobbit, and even if we scale back a few years to allow for hobbits' slightly longer life span than humans, Daniel Radcliffe is still quite a bit too young. The family resemblence factor reminds me of that story of Elijah Wood in an elevator with...I forget who, but neither spoke and the tension rose until finally the other person said, "Harry Potter?" and Elijah said, "No" and got off the elevator.Laugh

There has been a lot of casting speculation. Here's one link, but you can use the Search Posts button to find more discussions. And welcome to TORn!

Where's Frodo?

Well [In reply to] Can't Post

If we're talking Harry Potter alumni, I'd think Harry Melling has the more hobbity physique. And if Richard Griffiths was younger he'd be perfect.

******************************************
The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Harry and Frodo [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree with you that Dan looks like Elijah. I think that's one of the reasons I started reading the Potter books. . Wouldn't he be too busy anyway with the 2 Potter ending movies?

Daniel Radcliffe [In reply to] Can't Post

He is the right height, but he doesn't look like Bilbo to me. Also, I understand he is planning to do a film about the photographer Dan Eldon besides the Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows. He might be too busy and it would be good for his career to do something that's not fantasy.

Off topic: I seem to remember Orlando Bloom was considered for the Dan Eldon role some years ago, but I guess they waited so long he would no longer be believable as a 23-year-old.

A well known face [In reply to] Can't Post

Well...he's alright at acting, but not that great, and when people would first watch the films, they'd just think 'Harry!' ((or, for LOTR fans, when watching harry potter movies (can't think why anyone would) they'd just think 'Bilbo!'))

Phew! That was alot of brackets!

That was what was so great for me about the LOTR films - I had absolutely no idea who all the actors were in it, so I just completely believed in this other world. But then, I was only 11 at the time.

Howdy and Welcome! [In reply to] Can't Post

We hear all the time of Daniel and Elijah being mistaken for each other :) I'm afraid I'm in the camp of leaving Daniel as Harry and Elijah as Frodo. What I'm counting on is that Peter Jackson and his people will do the same amazing job of casting for The Hobbit and its sequel as they did for The Lord of the Rings. I can't wait for them to start the casting and have those names start showing up one at a time!

I'm glad you've found your way here. Stick around and enjoy the excitement! :D

wouldn't fly [In reply to] Can't Post

Dan as Bilbo wouldn't fly. With him being in so many HP movies, he is too much Harry Potter. It would take a lot of imagination on the folks who watch The Hobbit to see past that.

Theres some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and its worth fighting for.
