Into the West at Dawn Can't Post

is the title I gave this acrylic painting. It was originally inspired when we "sub-conspirators" of the Map Quest chose to thank Ent Maiden for her hard work for seeing the project through and the compassion she displayed to her fellow Tornsibs. When Googleing for an Ent Maiden picture I found a few cartoon types, but nothing that would be suitable for a gift so I decided to try to create one of my own.

I have not had a lot of time to paint in my lifetime so the learning process is sometimes frustrating especially as I tried to get the paint to behave and do what I wanted or to get her to scan properly which finally happened at a professional scanning business. She began to take on a life of her own representing so much more than just a painting. I am in the middle of a fight for the Shire so to say as a developer wants to develop 17,000 acres in our rural community just a few miles away. I can't say how desperately I have wished for an army of Ents the last month or so. And lately at night I wish Treebeard could sing to me so I could sleep.

She is holding back her branches as she tries to get a good look at where she is going as she prepares to leave on a journey to a place she has never known. Young and beautiful, as Treebeard remembers the Entwifes and Maidens to have been before they left and went into the west. She has a basket of corn to plant when she finds her new home.

Thank you for posting this! [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the vibrant colors, but what I love most is those incredible eyes! What a beautiful painting.

That is so evocative [In reply to] Can't Post

and so original! I too like to imagine from time to time what the Entwives might have looked like but I never tried to execute an illustration of them. I think you've created a very believable and wistful vision of an Entwife, and captured a lovely moment of time as well. I like your use of color very much.
Well done!

Thank you Aunt Dora [In reply to] Can't Post

Do you have much snow on the ground? I bet those mountains near you are absolutely breath taking this time of year. I miss the snow.

This was refreshing, [In reply to] Can't Post

especially coming from another artist. When I asked a family member what he thought, the reply was" it's ok if you like that kind of stuff", so it is nice to get an opinion with a word besides ok or the other two I want to omit from the English language- it's fine! Thank you very much.

My pleasure, Shadowfaxfan, [In reply to] Can't Post

I especially admire those who are good at color illustrations; using color is hard for me, I tend to get totally mired in it, so I like seeing how other artists successfully handle color.

Now, thats a nice view. [In reply to] Can't Post

I really like the colors and composition of this painting. The flowering branches and the sun make a great & lively focus point. I hope the developers out of Isengard run into unexpected financing problems. Good luck.

I agree with the color issue [In reply to] Can't Post

it can sometimes summon rabid behavior as far as I am concerned. I prefer good old pencil drawings that color can complicate for the worst some times. I must of repainted the Ent Maidens eyes 20+ times. The paint got so thick I had to peel the eye off down to the base coat and then I used the magnifying glass-light combo I have and that helped a lot. I am assuming that is why artists paint on large canvas's so they get a near life size image that is easy to put detail into. The canvas board I used was only 9"x13" if I remember correctly.
