In general, what do you think are the most identifiable themes in The Hobbit ?

Eventually, husband and I would like to do a "satirical" original music video. So I'm just wondering what folks may most associate w/The Hobbit in general... just wanting the perspectives of other "artists"- whether you play music, draw, make vids, whatever.

I wouldn't say this was a theme, but...

"The Hobbit" anything, without Smaug just wouldn't be "The Hobbit". I guess "stepping outside your usual box can lead to danger but also to growth" is a theme?
Hanging out with the Lonely Isle elves.

... but I strongly associate "handkerchiefs" with The Hobbit
Crows and Gibbets! What is The House Of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll around on the floor with their dogs! You are but a lesser son of greater Sires.

In Lord of the Rings, the most dramatic theme for me was nature at war with industry. I think Del Toro will lead the growth of the characters with themes like taking risks and self sacrifice.
