I only made the figures here, not the horses which I borrowed from some extra Nazgul figures. They are made with sculpey. The spear and arrow shafts are wood and metal. The guy on foot is 3" high. I make them to fit in with the movie figures but am starting to explore my own ideas and historical influences. actual colors

Nimloth, talent is usually only part of it, and the rest is practice. There are some very good materials these days to play around with if you want to try. Super sculpey is a great all around material. Ask ques if you want.

Sculpey is wonderful stuff. I've used it for a lot of things, but never anything this detailed. Very nice! What historical influences are you looking at for your sculpts?

Basically I am pulling bits and pieces from my favorite historical period in recent years, about 250 - 450 AD. But accross the world, things like late Roman, Germanic, Mongol, Mayan. I am looking at it from the angle that striving forces share and borrow ideas. Goblins would reflect men in some ways.

and I would have to say your riders {and footman} look much better than the originals as far as detail goes. They are amazing. Do you have to use a magnifying glass of sorts to see detail that small? I have a few Warhammer Figs- Elves and Unicorns- and I managed to get one painted but I thought I would go blind looking through the magnifying lens I had to use to paint it. A few years ago I tried some sculpty clay and then I read it was toxic so I never finished the horse below. I had read on the Sideshow website that they use sculpting wax. So I bought some online but it is pretty hard and I am assuming it will need to be heated in order to sculpt with it. One of these years I hope to get a chance to use it. It would be fun though to make some dark mounts for your orcses!!!!
A myth is far truer than a history, for a history only gives a story of the shadows, whereas a myth gives a story of the substances that cast the shadows.~Annie Besant Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole, and once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
