First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
|
My oldest brother purchased the original ralph bakshi movie VHS (yes that old) in the late 80’s and I was obsessed - watched this film all the time and was always so upset to not know what happens since it cuts right after helms deep and Frodo and Sam heading to Mordor with Gollum. I used to complain all the time that I didn’t know what happened. Then my mother one day - why don’t you just go to the library and read the book? Wow what an amazing thought! lol. So I did that but when I got to the library the only copy of fellowship of the ring (yes they only had 1 copy) was checked out. So I started reading from Two towers on. I finished the series then went back to read fellowship when I was able. I also found out there was a hobbit and return of the king animated movies which I hated lol. Some of my favorite chapters was Shelobs lair and the choices of master Samwise. I must have re-read those 100s of times. I read LOTR from 1990 to 2001 every year. I started buying copies of the books. I remember there was barely any versions in the book stores. I found online in the late 1990’s the audio cassettes and the bbc 12 part series. It came with a lilthograph signed by Alan Lee. I remember the first time I saw the principal photography of the black rider looking over the Shire for the fotr. Since the 2000’s I’ve listened to the audiobook countless times. It will forever have a dear hold on my heart.

Favorite Tolkien character:

Frodo has always been my favorite. The sacrifices and the bravery he took on knowing he was walking to his doom to save everyone else. The heart break of failing at the end but fate stepping in (or divine intervention) to save the day. Understanding that not once somethings are broken they can never truly be fixed was a life lesson for me.
