May Movie Madness!
|
Can't Post
|
|
Three movies come out in May, all sequels to films that rank in the
top-10 all-time money makers. I think I can already predict the winner
from these parts, but if you could only see one of these movies, plus a
movie I most want to see in may (a sure loser) which would you pick?

The only one I'm interested in is Pirates 3, although I'll probably wind up seeing Shrek 3 at some point, too, when someone's kids want to see it.

Spidey wins, although I will no doubt go and see Pirates 3 and I MIGHT go and see 28 weeks later. Probably not on that last one - I LOVED 28 Days Later (and is it really one of the top ten all time money makers?!) but I think that's a film which did NOT need a sequel. That just seems like a cheap cash-in tactic to me so I'm not really interested in seeing it. So, what's the film you most want to see in May, SandWitch King? The film I most want to see at the moment (but it doesn't count, because it opened last week) is Hot Fuzz. Can't wait till I get a chance to get to the cinema!

No question there for me. I haven't even seen Pirates 2 yet, and am not too bummed out by the fact. Shrek 3 I will see if for nothing more than morbid curiosity. The only one that really vied for my vote was 28 Weeks Later. Looks interesting.

Shrek 2, Spidey and Pirates 2 are all top 10 all time. 28 Days Later, not so much. I only include that film because it comes out in May, buzz is actually pretty good, and I loved the first one. It comes out the week between Spidey 3 and Shrek 3, followed the last week in the month by Pirates. My movie critic friend called in the Spidey 3 results and said, "Too many characters, not quite as good as 2". I voted for 28 Weeks Later.

Wow, that is a crazy movie month! I love summmer! My top pick is definitely Pirates. I can hardly wait to see it. Yay! And I really want to see 28 Weeks Later. Though I'll have to wait until the end of the month, when my roommate gets back from her three-week trip to Europe.

I'll see Shrek and Spidey at some point, but won't hurry. So - guess I should go rent 28 Days Later? I've just never been much for horror movies. They run counter to pretty much everything I believe in.

Pirates is the only one of those that I'd say I'm excited about seeing; I'm really looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp reprise the Captain Jack role. I'll likely see Spiderman too, might see/rent Shrek. Afraid I have no interest in 28 Weeks Later; I tend to avoid horror films.

Yes, I am looking forward to the 3rd 'Pirates' film more than the others, but I will definitely see 'Spidey 3' and '28 Weeks Later' (although i'm still worried that it's going to be a big disappointment). In addition to these films, there are some others coming out in May i'd like to see: The Flying Scotsman Paris, je 'Taime Paprika (someone I know saw this unusual anime film and said it was well worth going out of your way to find)

Its Pirates for me! At least Ive seen the other two - which is pretty amazing actually, considering these must be one of the only movies I saw almost on their opening days in Oz. Thats what happens when I look after someone else children for them - we go to the Movies - the others werent in their age range ... noew I'll have to borrow some kids for the 3rd Pirates - cause that aint in my range either. OOh! Look - me and Capt. Jack Sparrow having our photo taken at the premiere!

I got Shrek on the board (the only vote for that one so far). Honestly, I'm not jumping up and down until that one comes out either, but I'd rather see that than any of the others. Pirates and Spidey both put me to sleep. I liked 28 Days Later, but I didn't know a sequel was coming out, and I don't know what's left to do in that story.

Unlike the other franchises, both of the first two movies of this one were consistently great. And I just can’t get enough of Donkey. I loves me some Donkey.

Since I have been less than thrilled with Spidey, or Shrek, and haven't seen 28 Days Later so why would I see a sequel? I might see Lucky You, just for Eric Bana.

unlike you, I didn't care for the second Shrek. I'll wait to hear if you liked it before I decide to see the 3rd. If I do, I'll probably take the GrandPattys again, cause they liked the other two. But Pirates is it for me! The 2nd Pirates really really suffered from middle movie syndrome (unlike TTT, to me. I think the difference is that TTT was always the middle of one long story, whereas Pirates 2 was only written because 1 did so well. It shows.) But I liked it better after a 2nd viewing. I'm looking forward to seeing this now, with the return of my 2nd favorite character, Geoffrey Rush.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing any of the others, the other Spiderman films were great, considering they were hampered by two of the worst actors I have seen (Dunst and Maguire), Shrek's always a laugh and 28 Weeks Later is an interesting concept. But Pirates wins, I have an investment in the story, I really want to see how it turns out.

It's probably down to profit as percentage of costs. 28 Days Later was extremely cheap to make, and was a massive international hit. Apparently 28 Days Later made its money back five times over. Take a look at the grosses on this link http://www.imdb.com/...e/tt0289043/business based on an $8 million budget.

tough. In the end I voted for Spiderman 3. Though I've been hearing some interesting things about it (too flashy, too many characters, not as good as the second, etc...). Of course I chose this as my choice because of another (hopefully good) appearance by Bruce Campbell. hehe Pirates 2 was not a good film (at least I didn't think so) so I'm not anticipating seeing it (though I probably will). Shrek the 3rd. Did we need another Shrek film? I think not. 28 Weeks Later is another I'll go and see (I loved the first one) but have a feeling it won't live up to the first one (which of course is the case with many sequels).

Pirates 2 had moments and I liked it well enough for what it was, but I feel like the franchise is still skating on John Depp from the first flick. I think we forgive things we love. Spidey for me tomorrow!

I think we forgive things we love. So very true, Mr.Cere. Nevertheless, I will be miffed if Pirates 3 goes the route of Pirates 2 -making over a billion dollars (even though it's an inferior movie) on the strength of Pirates 1 alone. Truthfully, I'd love for Return of the King to remain the number 2 highest grossing movie of all time. I mean, I know it must fall, but I don't want it to fall to Pirates 3 unless it is at least as good as Pirates 1 was.

I'm not crazy about Tobey McGuire as Spider-man... he looks too young/dorky.... and Shrek 2 sucked as far as I'm concerned... I'll borrow #3 on DVD from my nephew when it comes out. 28 Weeks Later?... meh... I hate gore flicks... even if they have comedy in them.
