The Voyage Home for me... as it is so light and chock full of memorable quotes and ocurrences. "Captain. We have found a nuclear vessel. And captain - it is the Enterprise." I have stopped at The Undiscovered Country as hereafter we have lost (most of) the original crew. Aw shucks !

None of the others have the impact of Khan. III, IV, and VI all have some good moments, but nothing compares to II.

Khan & Voyage Home are so different in scope I give a very slight nod to Voyage Home not for its serious impact but for its 'earthly familiarity' and humor. Gillian: S-sure you won't change your mind? Mr. Spock: Is there something wrong with the one I have? Kirk: Everybody remember where we parked! Spock: They like you very much, but they are not the hell "your" whales. Gillian: I suppose they told you that. Spock: The hell they did. Gillian: Don't tell me! You're from outer space. Kirk: No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

J.J. Abrams I personally think nailed the reboot. I love the actors, and how it showed everybody's backstory. I love the story and I love how Leornard Nimoy protrayed an older Spock. I think it's one of the rare reboots or if not the only that actually worked.

...which was excellent, so I'll say that. I like all 3 of the reboot films, though the 2009 film remains the best i.m.o I have a soft spot for Star Trek Generations, I haven't seen it in years, but it was one of my favourite films as a kid (don't ask) and the novelization was one of the first sci-fi books I remember reading...

reminded me of the series “Star Trek, The Next Generation”, which was well done also; and some iconic quotes from both TOS and TNG, that have entered our culture and may even, on occasion, be used (or recognized) by non-Star Trek fans. From the original series: “Live long and prosper.” “Beam me up Scotty.” “I canna do it captain.” Or, “I’m givin’ her all she’s got, captain” “I’m a doctor not a bricklayer!” “Set phasers on stun.” From the “Next Generation”: “Make it so.” “Resistance is futile.” “Tea, Earl Grey, hot.” “Engage.” And, do we detect a taste of political correctness in the opening lines of TNG? Instead of, “To boldly go where no MAN has gone before.” It’s, To boldly go where no ONE has gone before.” If you find a copy of “The Voyage Home” grab it! I’m sure you will enjoy it…

The only Star Trek movie that comes even close was the first, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and that was a completely different, more cerebral movie. ST:TMP is my second favorite with any other movie being way way way behind. The Voyage Home (aka Save the Whales) was a fun romp but was pretty out-of-character for Kirk -- a student of history who had seen America during the Cold War and who could recite the Preamble to the US Constitution -- to send Chekov to a US Navy base in search of "nuclear wessels." I am not a fan of the JJ-verse; it doesn't make sense or hold together well although he had an enormous budget for everything from costuming to set design to special effects.

Which is weird, because I didn't much care for TNG as a TV series. I would vote "Wrath of Khan" for the choices you present, but I guess there's just something funny about blasting off to "Magic Carpet Ride," watching Troy get drunk & trying to "blend in," and Alfre Woodard's best line: "Borg? Sounds Swedish!" I know I said this in another post, but with the original crew, it seems like only every other movie was any good. In fact, the first movie was IMO so bad that I was surprised they made a second movie - but that second movie was "Wrath of Khan," an incredible improvement! "Voyage Home" was funny, full of pop references and Spock swearing badly - I bought a mini-trilogy for my husband of numbers II, III & IV. It's a nice story arc.

I can just barely recall going to the theater excitedly expecting to see, more or less, a continuation of the original TV series. Although I enjoyed the movie, the tale and special affects took precedence and the old crew-camaraderie just wasn’t there. (This is much, or most, of the appeal of TOS.) Because of this unreality, and after seeing the other 5 listed films The Motion Picture falls way way behind into last place for me. Besides Kirk and crew saving the Earth (as usual) The Voyage Home (to me) was not meant to be cerebral but meant to be a “fun romp” – and it romped to a fare-thee-well. But, hey, I love ‘em all and your opinion is just as good as mine… (almost )

The point of the story in ST:TMP was how the crew came back together after drifting apart when they finished the five year mission. IMO, ST:TMP was far more in the spirit of the original series than any of the movies because the series WASN'T about naval action in space (aside from certain standouts like "Balance of Terror"), it was about the exploration of the frontier, learning about the universe. Kirk and crew saving the Earth wasn't actually a "usual" thing in the series -- in fact, it only became common-place BECAUSE of ST:TMP. During the series, they were simply trying to survive on the edge. As far as "First Contact" ... meh, what a continuity-busting POS. I put First Contact right up there with Star Wars Episode I. I found the non-Zefram Cochrane to be every bit as annoying as Jar Jar Binks -- but then none of the TNG movies were any good as Star Trek. As SFX-laden celebrations of Brannon Braga's and Rick Berman's egos, they were fabulous.

well documented through research. The cutoff year appears to be 1946 and in my experience represents a sharper divide than we've seen since between generations.
