Hengist or Hengest was the first of the anglosaxon (even though he was a Jute) settlers/invaders to come to Briton. The ffirst king of Kent where I'm from and Tolkien wrote about him in "Finn and Hengest". Thats why It has nothing to do with henges of the stone or wood variety
I meant," said Iplsore bitterly, "what is there in this world that makes living worthwhile?" Death thought about it. "CATS," he said eventually, "CATS ARE NICE." -- (Terry Pratchett, Sourcery)

That's interesting ... is that where "tedium" comes from too? I'm sorry to hear about your experience with depression. I know of what you speak. But Taedius is actually a pretty word though. So you have taken something from the darkness of depression and created something of beauty from it. That's wonderful. I love learning about Latin roots. Actually I'd love to learn Latin, if I ever had lots of time. {sigh} ...another thing that'll have to wait until I'm retired .

I think the very first post I made I used something like "Third nazgul from the left", but someone quickly posted to point out that a user was already "Third orc from the left", so I changed immediately. Although I didn't steal on purpose, I have to admit to myself that Orc's name had probably been lying around somewhere in my subconcious as a cool one as I'd been lurking for a while before I registered I had considered some pretty lame (in restrospect) LOTR nicks before going with sherlock so I'm glad I didn't jump in with the first thing that came to mine. I'm not thrilled with mine and have considered changing it but I think I'm stuck with it now.

Your nickname, that is. Way back in late 2002/early 2003 when I found TORn, I was also checking out TORc (the "official"? one-- but I soon left and haven't been back there since; I loved and still love TORn much better). Anyway, one day on there I saw an ad for some company or something called "Rubies of Eventide". And I really liked the Eventide moniker. So, when I decided to sign up on TORn and start posting, I tacked a letter s on the end of Eventide and I've carried that nickname ever since.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "I stepped out of my body to let God slide in; although I'm still dressed in flesh that I spiritually died in. Alive in Christ a new creation started breathin', Life exists and through this came completion. ... I'm not that person anymore (more!)! That's what blood was shed for! No longer a failure, livin' life more abundantly, therefore you'll never see me livin' less than victory." John Reuben. "Desperation, needing You; every last breath I scream for You. Shatter me into a million pieces, make me new. ... Break me, mold me, make me what You want me to be; I am Yours, for You to use, so take and replace me with You." Family Force 5. "Under a light in Bethlehem, I was sifting through the sand; the saline burned my eyes, I was looking for Your hand. I gave up on myself, and left my pride disarmed; I cried out 'I'm alone!' and found myself in Your arms. 'Rest in Me, oh, My love; I have loved you before the world began. Rest in Me, oh, My love; you'll never wander too far to reach My hand.'" Showbread.

Well its hardly ever been used. I'd have thought you could have taken Lalaith with no problem here on the new boards. Lalaith has not posted in years. Since the casting rumours forum was active. That was way back when. Its only really nicks that are currently in use or have been used recently that people need to maybe be wary of using. Lots here have slightly altered their nicks to use ones that were previously registered to someone else but not been used in eons.
''Pooh!'' he whispered. ''Yes, Piglet?'' ''Nothing,'' said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. ''I just wanted to be sure of you.'' What I am listening to

"dream of starlight", although I took some liberties with Elvish grammar. I wanted something Tolkien but didn't want to be a particular character. So I went to some of the online English/Quenya English/Sindarin dictionaries and looked at words that sounded pretty and whose meanings I liked and seemed to resonate with me to be about my experience with LOTR. I found "lore" which means 'dream', and "silme" which means 'starlight', and to me the world of ME seems like a beautiful dream, and stars and starlight figure so prominently ... I just liked them both and combined it. I kind of fudged a little on not adding in a translation of "of" in there. But it just sounded pretty to me so I went with it. The nice thing too is that there is no other Loresilme out there, not even on Google. And that's my story .

...er...well...actually no, it doesn't as a matter of fact. When I first got on the internet so many years ago, the name seemed to fit. At times it's much easier to find ways to make someone laugh, than to find the humor in something yourself. It can even get to the point where you hide behind that humor because you don't know whether to laugh or cry yourself, and making other people happy fills up a void, at least in some ways. Things have (gladly) changed much since those days. So, when setting up my first email address on Yahoo, I had to come up with something. It had to be something I'd remember, but I didn't want just random numbers or letters or partial names and the like. "Joker" had a more comic feel to it (and the ever-present Batman connotation) which didn't seem appropriate, but "Jester" seemed to fit right. Jesters made people laugh, even at their own expense. The weren't often really bright, but are portrayed at times as being wiser and more insightful than one would expect from such a basely humorous demeanor. Thus, Jester. Through the years my situations have changed (for the better), but I've seen little reason to change the name. I've been quite pleased with it and it's served me well. After so long, it becomes rather an extension of ones self.

I named myself after a favourite piece of jewellery, carved in the ataahua shape. I wanted something New Zealand-sounding and this fitted, although sometimes I wish I'd gone with something Tolkienesque - but as Jester says, your nick becomes part of your identity after a while.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I imagine many of you are familiar with The Witch King, well my name is a pun based on that! Sandwich has the same end sound as Witch in Witch King so I combined the two for form SandWitch King. Sadly, I forgot about a name I used to love but didn't use called, "Barrow Wong". Foe remembered it but now I am "stuck" with SandWitch King - although I love the icon and the discomforts it brings.
Once upon a time I was MrCere. I still am but this name is for posting and being part of the community while that one is for official business. 8-)

According to the site I used, Alcarcalime is an exact translation of the meaning of Roberta. I drove my family crazy by giving them their names translated into Quenya and then wrote it with Tengwar. I know my daughter put hers up on her refrigerator for a while -- isn't she nice? Everyone just took them silently.

I live in California and my favorite characters in Middle-Earth/Arda are the hobbits. Thus the nick CAhobbit was born. Though I did make two posts under a different nick when I first joined TORn way back in late 2001/early 2002. It was Luthien something or other. I soone found that many nicks had that name so I quickly changed to a different nick.

And I wanted a real name, that people could call me in person if they wanted to. Also, I like the character Morwen (the first Morwen, mother of Turin); she has some of the same strengths and weaknesses I have, so I guess there was really no other choice.

My RLnick is obviously Timbo, which was taken. Unfortunately, the first Tolkien-nick to come to mind was the character I like the least. And I'm being polite here. I didn't ditch it on the new boards, because you grow with your name. At least I did with my last name, but I won't elaborate on that…
