Well, I'm back.

I got back from New Zealand last night, by way of Los Angeles (the longest Wednesday ever). My flight from Auckland to LA was delayed over 2 hours, and I would up missing my connecting flight from LA to Atlanta, but fortunately they were able to get me on the next flight and I got back home only an hour later than planned. The trip was absolutely amazing and magical and i'm already planning my next visit! We drove all over Middle Earth, and along the way got to see Hobbiton, the Dimholt Road, Isengard, Rivendell, Helms Deep; we got attacked by goats and Alpaca on the plains of Rohan; took a jetboat ride down the river Anduin; and drove past the Lighting of the Beacons. Sadly, none of the photos can do justice to how gorgeous New Zealand really is. Here are a few photos: The Paths of the Dead:
The view from Bag End:
Kong Wuz Hair:
Daniel Falconer from Weta, deej, and shuya at Eva Dixon's Cafe, Miramar:
I've got more photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7545402@N05/ It's good to be home, but i'm already missing NZ and all the great people we got to spend time with while there.

And thank you (and shuya) for all the pics! I've been following along in shuya's blog - what an absolutely fantastic trip! Lots of adventures (planned and unplanned), gogeous scenery, meeting up with TORnkids - what could have been better? I'm always amazed by that view out the front door of Bag End...

When I was little, a block of houses got demolished to make room for railroad tracks in the switch yard. A barrier was erected just a few feet from the intersection and the pavement went a little past that and just seemed to disappear. The pavement that was left fell into disrepair. Cracks formed and weeds grew through them. I was always fascinated with the concept that that pavement had been a street with houses on it and now all that was left was echoes of that time. That door, looking out at the party tree reminds me of that feeling. I can remember what it looked like in a different time and now there are just echoes. I enjoyed the pictures. Thanks for sharing. (The Orlando one is, hands down, my favorite!)

Wow... talk about your adjustments! It's gotta be surreal to step off that incredible adventure and walk back into familiar surroundings! I SO filled with joy and envy :) I couldn't get to Shuya and your blogs as much as I wanted to, but I've printed them out and have had SO MUCH FUN sitting and reading them at night. You guys are amazing... and I can't WAIT to see you at DragonCon and get the lowdown face to face :) HUGS!

Usually I have blue eyes, but today they're green! It looks like you had a magical journey there and back again. You took my dream trip. I am so happy for you. I love looking out the hobbit door. It must have been pretty surreal to be in all of those places. Thank you so much for sharing your photos with us. You have a generous spirit to travel so long and so far and think of us right away. Glad you're back safe and sound with all of your wonderful memories.

Sorry to hear your return trip didn't go exactly as planned, but now you're back and can enjoy all your memories and pictures! I'm impressed that you're already planning your return trip even before you're over your jet lag, lol! I can't wait to look at the rest of your pictures. You went lots of places I didn't get to go when I was there, like Hobbiton. It still amazes me that the party tree was REAL! Embellished by fake leaves, yes, but an amazingly beautiful tree on it's own too. Welcome back again!! *waves to shuya too, and hopes she's enjoying Aussie-land*

Wow - that flew by! It seems only yesterday you were getting ready to go; and if I feel like that, I can only imagine how YOU feel! I know how L.Ron and I felt when we got back from our amazing trip last year -and yes, we keep thinking about plans for our next trip, too! So glad you had such a great time - isn't NZ amazing? Look forward to hearing all about it and seeing some pics at D*Con! Welcome home, traveller!

I'll bet it was absolutely breathtaking to see those places in person. Those photos of of Hobbiton are amazing! You actually got to go inside Bag End? What was it like? Were you on cloud nine? The "In a hole in the ground" quote, where was that posted? Thanks for sharing your NZ experience!

You could go into most of the Hobbit holes, although you had to duck. They really were Hobbit-sized! The quote was on the front of the building of the Hobbiton tour group in downtown Matamata.
