Requesting prayers/well wishes/good thoughts.. Can't Post

... or whatever you believe in.

Last week where he works at, my husband suffered a third-degree chemical burn to his foot. He has had two surgeries already, and is in MUCH pain..... even the Morphine drip they have him on is barely taking the edge off now, since he has been on it for a few days.

He could still need more surgeries to keep the wound clean, and will need skin grafts in a few weeks.

Any well-wishes would be greatly appreciated.

You have them, WLE. [In reply to] Can't Post

Do the docs say how long it will be before he's on his own two feet again?

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

and I think he should be able to get some pain relief! They may have to adjust the morphine dose or start something else...hopefully he is telling the staff his pain is uncontrolled, so they can get him the relief he needs!

fingers crossed.

How did this happened? What nasty stuff did that?
WLE i feel terrible that you guys are having to deal with such an accident. The pain should start to ease i would think between 5 and 7 days. This will pass, I will be thinking of you two and wishing you comfort and a fast recovery.

"Tolkien, like Lewis, believed that, through story, the real world would become a more magical place, full of meaning. We see its patterns and colors in a fresh way. The recovery of a true view of the world applies both to individual things, like hills and stones, and to the cosmic - the depths of space and time itself. For in sub-creation, in Tolkien's view, there is a "survey" of space and time. Reality is captured on a miniature scale. Through stories like The Lord of the Rings, a renewed view of things is given, illuminating the homely, the spiritial, the physical, and the moral dimensions of the world."

Wow! I just said a quick prayer. [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope his recovery goes well.

And definitely talk to the nurses to see if they can adjust his dosage for better pain relief.

Positive thoughts going your way [In reply to] Can't Post

That sounds painful. I hope your husband starts to feel better soon and everything heals up quickly.

If it helps, I know from personal experience that the skin grafts won't be too bad. The donor site will be a bit sore for a few days and then it tightens up as the skin starts to heal, but it's soon mended. I hope the wound isn't too large? Putting the grafts on is dead easy, they did one of mine on the ward and it didn't hurt a bit. Just like glueing a bit of paper on another bit of paper, really. Absolutely nothing to be scared of. Smile

Morphine didn't help me either. Just made me feel sick. I always found paracetamol was the best option!

One way to look at it [In reply to] Can't Post

is that if he is in so much pain then the burn wasn't deep enough to eat away his pain receptors. That's a good thing but, oh my, burn pain is awful and unrelenting. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers your way. And get those docs to up or change the meds, he shouldn't have to suffer so.

Hope your husband heals quickly!!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

My cousin's 27 year old daughter just had spinal surgery and they had to try different pain meds to get her comfortable. That may be an option for your husband. I use to be afraid to ask for these things and I have found it is amazing what I can accomplish if I nicely pester someone until they respond!!! Good luck in dealing with the Docs, some of them can be quite grouchy and I hope you have a nice one.
