Petitions for knighthoods....

I've noticed that there's a trend of starting a petition to support causes close to one's heart (*cough*PJ for The Hobbit*cough*). Today, my attention was brought to this site: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/sirbean/ In case you missed it, fans of Sean Bean were looking to petition to have Sean bestowed with a KBE (Knight of the Britsh Empire).... mmm... Sir Sean.... *sigh* *ahem* Anyway, this brought up a past peeve of mine. Why is that they can bestow a knighthood on a Rolling Stone and a Beatle, but not on a Wizard/Vampire? If I were a Brit, I'd definitely start up a petition to have Christopher Lee given a KBE... I think he's certainly earned it, if not for acting, I think his indurance of being typecast in the same old, same old type of roles and doing so with a sense of humor certainly warrants it. Any Brits here agree with me?

Alive in Christ a new creation started breathin', Life exists and through this came completion. ... I'm not that person anymore (more!)! That's what blood was shed for! No longer a failure, livin' life more abundantly, therefore you'll never see me livin' less than victory." John Reuben. "Desperation, needing You; every last breath I scream for You. Shatter me into a million pieces, make me new. ... Break me, mold me, make me what You want me to be; I am Yours, for You to use, so take and replace me with You." Family Force 5. "Under a light in Bethlehem, I was sifting through the sand; the saline burned my eyes, I was looking for Your hand. I gave up on myself, and left my pride disarmed; I cried out 'I'm alone!' and found myself in Your arms. 'Rest in Me, oh, My love; I have loved you before the world began. Rest in Me, oh, My love; you'll never wander too far to reach My hand.'" Showbread.

But I think it's long overdue. He's done far more to earn it than some others who have been knighted.

The Rolling Stones (IMHO) taint the knighthood thing. But my personal feelings aside, you are right. If you grant them for this you should grant them for that. And, hey, the guy just released an album! He is a singer too!
. . . One should, if possible, express a negative concept in a positive form: "not meaningful" rather than "meaningless." I agree and will, therefore, now refer to contemporary movie executives as running around "like chickens without their heads cut on." - David Mamet

Only Jagger. His is about the only celebrity knighthood I feel should not have been given. I don't think Lee really scores on the radar other than career longevity though. He was made a CBE, as was Ian McKellen. McKellen said of his knighthood, which I thought was touching, he would take the knighthood over the Oscar any day as they Oscar was for one film, the knighthood was for an entire career. I don't however hold much with celebrity knighthoods as a rule anyways. I think the film/music industry throws enough plaudits at themselves as it is, let alone our Queen and Gov. doing so also. However, Bob Geldof I do make the exception for. His fundraising efforts and achievements for Africa have been incredible. I fully understand and appreciate his being given, even though as he is Irish it is only an honourary one. It was good they reocgnised him for that.
'I wish I could say something classy and inspirational, but that just wouldn't be our style.' 'Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever.' What I am listening to

As he is Irish, like Bob Geldof, it's an honourary one.He said that he was flattered at the honour and the recognition only spurred him onwards in his fight against world poverty.I admire him for that. I wasn't that enthralled when Jagger was knighted, I have to admit. Why him and not George Harrison? Christopher Lee definitely deserves a knighthood for his services to the acting profession.
