Lost end in sight Can't Post

For all of you Lost fans, this article was on CNN. I'm glad to know that it isn't open ended actually.

I've always assumed [In reply to] Can't Post

that there was defined end-point for the plot, based on what Lindelof and Cuse have said in previous interviews, but it's nice for everyone to know how long it will take for the story to unfold — even more for the creators than for the viewers.

Have you seen the ratings? [In reply to] Can't Post

I think that got ABC to agree to set an end so fans knew there would be resolution. If it keeps bleeding viewers however, that end may come a lot sooner.

No wonder all writers want to direct: one still has to put up with a load of nonsense, but even if wearing two hats (writer and director), there is one under which one is not called a thief and then raped.

16 is not 24 [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder why they are only making 16 episodes per season? I wish it was more. Battlestar Galactica was recently renewed for 22 eps after originally ordering only 13 for season 4. I think 22 is normal. I guess cable shows generally have about 12 eps/season. I am glad they will play uninterrupted, though.

Maybe they will have a January start.

Yes. [In reply to] Can't Post

48 episodes is two years' worth. But they decided to drag it out to three years, so divide 48 by 3 instead of 2.

Uninterrupted [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm assuming that they will do what NYPB Blue did for its last season and not start until January, then go uninterrupted through to the season finale. That seems to work well for ratings. Personally, I can't stand when they have 3 or 4 new episodes, then take a month off, then have a few more new ones, etc.

I'm surprised it's losing so many viewers [In reply to] Can't Post

when season three is so much stronger than season two. (Note: NZ is several episodes behind the US, so if you're going to reference any episodes please be kind and be vague! Thanks.) :)

happened in season 2 or right after it was over. It was a pretty lack luster season (until the last few episodes). Season 3 is far better but people already gave up on it after season 2. Plus the long hiatus and the switching of time slots hasn't helped season 3 either.

Is it usual [In reply to] Can't Post

on US networks for a series to take a break during its run? (I'm not sure why a network would hobble a popular series by doing this - it doesn't make sense to me.)

A lot of people were disappointed by season 2, and since missing even one episode will leave you even more confused than had you watched it, haven't bothered to catch up.

Shows on network TV (NBC, FOX, ABC) almost always run shows with breaks. There are 'Sweeps' months where the 'best' of a show is tried to be shown by the networks (November, February and May) and outside of the those months not a lot of new episodes are shown really. It's so annoying and frustrating for viewers and that annoyance and frustration has increased throughout the years (beaks have become longer, shows have two weeks of new shows and then over a month of re-runs etc...). '24' has gone the route of having a whole season without any breaks and hopefully more shows network TV will do the same. *crosses fingers*. It would keep viewers.

Hobble is right! [In reply to] Can't Post

Not only have the shows themselves weakened in the plot, imho... but the huge gaps break the bonds of the viewers. The reason the first season succeeded so well was because they kept going the storylines were relentless and thought-provoking and the characters were consistent. Now there seems to be nothing but suspicion, torment, and games. I'm becoming quite disenchanted... which makes me even more angry! I couldn't get enough of them before. Now it may be a few days before I watch the recording because it's on WAY past my bedtime now. Another strike against continued success.

This show's been a great lesson on how to ruin a good thing.

Is this a problem for American shows [In reply to] Can't Post

In the UK, a series run will generally be, for comedy series around 6 30 minute episodes (See any series of Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses, Red Dwarf and the classic example of Fawlty Towers, which had two 6 episode series and ended), and for major drama serials, probably around 12 one hour programmes. This will generally lead to tighter plotting and a better overall series, as well as more viewers as you'll find UK viewers less likely to stay with a series for its entire 24 week run.

There's also less possibility of Shark Jumping...

Oh, I don't know.. [In reply to] Can't Post

I prefer the 22-24 episodes per season. With a short season British shows often feel rushed as the characters have to appeal to the viewer almost from the start. With American dramas stories can be stretched out with more character development. Also, a six episode drama or comedy is not worth my license fee.If I'm paying 130 Pounds a year for the BBC then I want my money's worth and I'd rather have a 22 episode season.

I've watched every episode of LOST and this season has been as great as the first.Last week's episode with Sawyer's dilemma was outstanding.

I guess I won't start a new thread but HOLY COW!!! Man Behind the Curtain!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Man Behind the Curtain spoilers below!!

I totally thought this would be all about the camp discovering Juliette was a liar and that felt like a minor subplot.

Did Locke just die?!?!? Not that he didn't have it coming -- he who lives by the sword...

Was I just feeling sorry for Ben?!?!

So, is this Tropical Sixth Sense or what? How is it that Richard/Eyeliner Man hasn't aged but just got a haircut? Why do supernatural people need to recruit fertility specialists in Florida?

Aren't you happy to know the mystery of Roger the Work Man and the VW bus of beer? (Even if it was very sad?)

I am feeling pretty concerned for Charlie's wellfare after those previews.

Woah! Mass Dharma grave. Woah! Ben shot Locke. I bet Jacob will save Locke. He will heal him. He can't be dead. He just can't! NO NON NO NO NO NO NO! @#$% Ben! "Because we're not killers, James." Pfff! Yeah right you liar! He better not have killed his flashback childhood friend. I hope she was leaving the island when she gave Ben that doll. I guess Richard Alpert is an immortal or something. I now think the whispers we've allways been hearing for so long are Jacob. Maybe he's the ghost of one of the Black Rock people? Great episode. I really liked young Ben. How funny is it that Hurley and Jin accidentally knocked off Ben's fathers head?

even I liked this episode! [In reply to] Can't Post

And I am pretty tired of Lost. BUT!! This episode hooked me back in.

Cool

Theory: (not original to me, I notice by scanning some Lost boards, great minds thinking alike and all that!) the Dharma stations are spread out like the beams in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. There are alternate worlds going on here, somehow centered on this island. There is "leakage" from one into the other. The beams are breaking and control is being compromised. It is possible to be in more than one world in alternate form.

Something like that.

Jacob is really there.

Locke is not really dead.

Ben is really a bad guy, not a good misunderstood guy.

And I do NOT trust Jack. Hope I'm wrong there.

I was freaking out . . . [In reply to] Can't Post

. . . "He lp m ee!!"
That just made me jump out of my chair. I ussually watch L0ST with the lights out, like a theatre environment. I stwitched the lights back on after that.
I would never have thought that Jacob would be an invisible guy! I thought he would be the main Dharma guy or somthing but now we know that Dharma wasn't even that important.

Jacob seems to be under Ben's control. When things were going crazy, Ben grabbed the chair and was saying "Stop it, you've had your fun." I think that it's possible that Richard 'eyeline dude' is in control. And what's the deal with him and his age. My sister said that he may be like Aragorn and age slowly.
ANd is Mikhail one of the others and not Dharma? Is that why he survived the sonar fence?

Ben is truly evil now. No more "We're the good guys."

I don't think that Locke is really gone. I can't see how L0ST can go on for two more seasons without a central character like Locke. But then again all his flashback's have been sorted out.

And i'm so happy that Juliet is now on the 'good' side. And she's not just being manipulative this time because she told Jack before she even knew that they will find the tape. It was great to see the Beach people having a group meeting. So they do talk to each other.

Only 3 more hours left in this season. If the regular episodes are so good i can't imagine how the season finale would be. Laugh

Hee, hee forgot about the head! [In reply to] Can't Post

That is funny. I knew that Roger Workman was Ben's dad as soon as they got to the island. So much for Ben's protestations about the fact that he doesn't lie! I guess he'll tell the Others that Jacob killed Locke. I don't think Lock is gone either. He clearly has a connection with the island or Jacob (if they are indeed separate entities). Is it possible that the monster and Jacob are also one in the same? I think the reason that Ben rose in the hierarchy of the Others is that he could hear and see Jacob. Rember how intrigued eyeliner guy was when young Ben told him that his dead mother spoke to him? That's why I'm thinking that they all may be one in the same because Jack saw his dad and Hurly saw that guy from the asylum, and Shannon saw Walt, etc.
