Well I'm sitting here stuffed up with a cold and with self-pity but I just had to share this - Linkin Park's video of their first single off their first new cd in 4 YEARS! That's almost as long as I've been here on these boards. Well worth the wait though. "What I've done" from the Minutes to Midnight cd, enjoy: (warning: some harsh images of the state of the world) http://youtube.com/watch?v=8sgycukafqQ

What an amazing video... and their music is awesome. I've never heard of them before... but now I'll have to seek them out. Thank you for this. I'm so stirred by the imagery....

I've been eagerly awaiting the release of their newest CD for a few months now and if this song is any indication it sounds like it will be a pretty good album. I really liked their first one but their second fell a little flat to me. I'm hoping album 3 will bring back much of what they accomplished with album 1.

I've enlisted a new fan in gramma! I thnk I'm LP's biggest fan (remember my old nick?) Some of their stuff can have a pretty harsh sound but they are so unique and such amazing song-writers, and I think their new cd is taking them in a whole new direction. They are also heavily into art (two met in art school) and are closet geeks (their last cd was titled after a Greek rock formation called Meteora that they thought had an epic feel reminiscent of LOTR) and are social and environmental activists. If you want to see some more of their videos I would recommend Crawling, Breaking the Habit (all anime) and Feint. My very favorite of their songs is still Krwlng, a remix of Crawling (no video for this one but you can hear it on youtube to other people's videos (some pretty good ones of Star Wars imagery funny enough). Cheers, gramma

I'm a fan, too, but I didn't realize it had been four years since their last album. I still hear them on the radio all the time. I don't get to watch videos much, though, since I don't have cable and don't watch much TV, period, so it's nice to have YouTube.

that is an absolutely gorgeous picture in your footer. Did you take it? By album 2 do you mean Meteora or Reanimation? I think Reanimation was their best, really brought the songs on Hybrid Theory to a whole other level.

tears and emotion... besides the imagery & music, the lyrics (what I could make out) "...(hoping?) mercy will wipe out what I've done" set against the backdrop of pictures of the plight of people around the world... . . . those are pretty powerful words.

It is nice to see those that so many look up to like Linkin Park and U2, behave in a socially responsible manner and try to teach social responsibility and caring. I spent the last 2 days picking up garbage out of the ditches on the sides of my dirt road in my rural neighborhood so that I can clean the ditches out with a backhoe to let the waterflow, and I kept thinking we cannot even teach humans to use a garbage can never mind anything else. Then when the person who lived on the five acres who's ditch we were cleaning floored his van in a drunken spree as he went by my Son and I, kicking clouds of dust in our faces my first instinct was to chase him down and beat him with a metal pipe, but all I yelled was thanks for the dust. Some-days I feel I have the conscience of a million people and it can be a burden. I will never understand the mentality at the other end of the spectrum as far as not caring goes. I can comprehend though, the feelings of anger, hate and the wanting to hit someone when provoked by such ignorant and apathetic behavior. I can understand how wars get started. I hope someday though, the world will be able to change. If only it were as easy as throwing a ring into a volcano, what I would give to live in Middle Earth.

Especially a day like today with that horrible shooting in Virginia. If LOTR teaches us anything it's that we all have a part to play and all we can do is our part, and sometimes that part is more than we imagine. Hope that neighbor appreciates what you've done for him when he sobers up, and if he doesn't, you've still done a good thing. No good deed is ever wasted.

was extremely horrible. It is really a shame we can not use the brain scan technology we have to prevent things like this from happening. From what I have seen most people start exhibiting odd behavior before they finally snap(including just a breakdown where no one else is harmed) Maybe someday the warning signals can be taught in school. It must be a horrible, horrible thing to be so broken that a human can kill strangers when unprovoked. When my neighbor is sober he seems okay, but when he is drunk he is a demon from hell. Unfortunately liquor makes a lot of people really mean, one reason I don't drink- the other is it makes me sick-possible alcohol allergy. Besides I like what braincells I have left and at 50 I need all I can get and don't want to encourage any thing like alzheimer's. I always want to be able to remember the philosophy of the LOTR, since it helps me get through a lot of my days. I find it funny how different stories, myths or religion can be inspirational and help people. Of all the things I have come across over the years, LOTR has had the greatest impact on my life as far as the "keep on going" issue is concerned, just wish I had come across it many years ago. I am glad for Peter Jackson and his love for Tolkien.
