Elven by name, Hobbit by nature

'Road lead ever on and on
down from the door where it began
now far ahead the road has gone
down from where all began' -FOTR-

and through all the world has changed
the ages come and go with time
and yet those remain unchanged
unto they journey westward
over the sea...

Oh, no. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm tears right now because I just found out that *another* old friend from that board is dead. He apparently died last October, but no one knew; people said he'd stopped answering e-mails, but they didn't know why. When one of the board members tried to contact him to tell him about John, and got no answer, he did some asking around and found out. eric had a heart condition and was close to death more than once, so it's not a surprise. But I'm heartbroken. When my grandmother died in 2000, eric sent me the sweetest e-card. Funny how you remember a kindness like that. I've known both of them longer than I've known anyone at TORn except for Celandine Goodbody.

Thanks again to everyone for all the support you're giving me. You are the best.

I'm so sorry, Aunt Dora. While many don't seem to understand how close one can grow to an online friend, I'm sure most of us here can imagine what you are going through. You'll be in my prayers.

Many hugs to you Aunt Dora [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds as if your friend will be missed by many people, and the loss is much greater to those that have never known him than to those who are grieving him now.

I hope you can save up some hugs to share when you need them most.

Oh my, this is so terrible. ((Auntie)) But I guess when one reaches out and makes real friends, online or offline, some of that enjoyment may lead to a big loss that I suppose can't be avoided--if we live long enough.

I am so sorry to hear of this additional sorrow. That is so sad and I suppose it reminds us that perhaps we should have someone designated to tell our online friends should something befall us where we can't post for a time. As we all know, these friendships are every bit as real and close and it would be good to know what is happening when someone "disappears" --if only to help or send a card or something.

Gosh, I am so sorry that you have lost two friends, Aunt Dora. I don't know what to say but I hope everyone at the MS Boards can support each other in this. You are the only ones who know how it truly feels to lose these two wonderful men. But it's good to see the TORn people reaching out to you too. I have felt that with my LJ group and it is a big comfort. Online friends are the best. Heart

{{{Aunt Dora}}}

What a shock that is!

I remember that feeling, from a few years back when a dear old friend of ours, who rarely writes letters but whom we write to once a year, called after he'd received our Christmas letter; he was very apologetic that he hadn't let us know that his partner had passed on a few months before! It is such a shock and a sudden grief.

Sending thoughts and prayers of comfort to you and your group!

Celandine is spot on: we should each make sure that there's someone to notify our on-line friends, should something happen to one of us.

That is a very good point. [In reply to] Can't Post

When I had my surgery a couple of years ago, I thought a lot about death. It was routine but major surgery, and I have a wild imagination. At the time, I added a paper to my will with the addresses and passwords for my online doings: my e-mail and messageboards, with the instructions that they should be notified. I'm redoing my will now that both my children are of age. I need to redo that page too, and make sure my passwords are all current. (The first two items mentioned were Celandine Goodbody and TORn.)

I've been thinking about you and your knee a lot, a.s. A friend of mine had knee replacement surgery and said it was really hard, but worth it. I hope all goes very well for you. Please keep us posted about your progress.

All i can say [In reply to] Can't Post

is that i hold you as a dear soul and love you for it. Some of the things you have said hold true for me also. It is amazing just how much our tornsibs are REAL family.
I am very sorry of your loss. He was a person uninfluenced by other peoples negativity. Peace to him and to you.
[[[[[HUG]]]]] for you auntie:).

"Tolkien, like Lewis, believed that, through story, the real world would become a more magical place, full of meaning. We see its patterns and colors in a fresh way. The recovery of a true view of the world applies both to individual things, like hills and stones, and to the cosmic - the depths of space and time itself. For in sub-creation, in Tolkien's view, there is a "survey" of space and time. Reality is captured on a miniature scale. Through stories like The Lord of the Rings, a renewed view of things is given, illuminating the homely, the spiritial, the physical, and the moral dimensions of the world."

Just had to come back to thank you again... [In reply to] Can't Post

I read your post and watched the video at a time when I truly needed it. At a different time, I knew I'd find the video cute but perhaps a little corny but this was not one of those times. I responded to it deeply. I decided to send it to a friend who I thought would appreciate the core spirit of the video and she emailed back quickly saying it was exactly what she needed at that moment and would say more later. She just did... in the last week she's lost one friend to cancer and has learned of three others who have inoperable cancer. So, in your effort to reach out to Aunt Dora, Tintalle, you touched others on this board and then it spread out from there. I just thought that needed saying.

And now perhaps I'll go read the story behind the video.

Thanks again..
