It looks like there is a break until April 23rd. I know you all want to do some Heroes discussion. Do it here. First of all, I love Heroes. It's one of the best television shows to ever hit the screen. Agree?

I HATE these breaks, though, They've just about ruined Lost. I like Heroes much better than I expected to, but I'm not convinced it's the best show ever.

(and this is speculation on my part, of course) Hiro returns from the future to see Peter on the subway. Remember the line, "You look different without your scar"? I'm going to guess this is the scar they are referring to. If all that we have seen before happens (that would include the destruction of NY) Peter will survive this but Isaac will still eventually die. Just fun to think about isn't it???!!!

I've liked just a few shows as much as this one. Buffy... the first season of LOST... the first season of Twin Peaks... (I would add Firefly or BSG if I'd watched them on broadcast TV but I didn't/don't) The thing that worries me is that, 'first season' thing. I think Buffy maintained their spark to the end. I liked it better with every season, but that may have been me just paying more attention to it. But I did not like 2nd season LOST and the 3rd season is beyond disappointing for me. The same happened with TP. It just went weird and ended abruptly. So part of me is steeling myself for this with Heroes. But it's the perfect combination of intelligence and geekiness for our family. I have lots of squirming oh-this-is-so-good-I-can't-bear-it moments. I think one issue I had with LOST is that I thought all the 'easter eggs' were 'clues'... and I invested a lot of energy researching, reading, discussing, etc things that latter turned out to be 'fun moments' but not significant in terms of plot. So I was not only disappointed when I found out they weren't clues to be solved, but I felt like I'd wasted a lot of time. And then the writers made fun of the 'over involved fans' so I felt foolish and disrespected. While some people still love LOST and I envy their love... it is spoiled for me. I didn't want to make the same mistake with Heroes. I don't over think it. I don't frequent forums that discuss Heroes. Not that I wouldn't mind a discussion here... but I won't go searching for theories and lists and observations. Especially since too many spoilers show up in those discussions. As to last night's episode (SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen the episode), I liked:
- finding out that Mrs. Bennett has a clearer head (when allowed to keep it) and a stronger will then we might have thought.
- getting Ando back. I actually knew he wasn't gone because of the number of episodes he was credited for at IMDB.
- Malcolm McDowell... I knew him first from Clockwork Orange so that was a geek moment for me.
- Mohinder figuring out who Sylar was. Mohinder has seemed just a little dense at times to me in the past. Of course, the density reappeared when he thought he had the upper hand in the situation.
- thinking Mrs. Bennett might be a company 'woman' for just a moment... this wouldn't have worked had that character (shape shifter) been introduced earlier in the season. I like that they're spreading things out and changing the characters to keep it fresh. I also liked the Simone moment. They showed that in last weeks previews and I thought Simone had come back from the dead.
- discovering a connection between the Haitian and the Matron Petrelli.
Still not sure what I think about:
- the Niki/Jessica character. She doesn't capture my heart in the way that many other characters do and she's actually a little annoying.
- Nathan Petrelli... good through and through? good but corruptible? I enjoyed that they wanted to put a spin on his character but it didn't work as well for me as spinning Mr. Bennett's character from evil to good. Maybe I have a harder time trusting a politician.
Questions I'm pondering most today:
- How long as Matron Petrelli known about Claire's superpowers... or her sons' (if at all) for that matter. Part of this question includes 'How long have Nathan and Peter known about their own abilities?' Peter seems to have discovered them during the timeline of the show. But Nathan may have known about his longer.
- Under what circumstances was Claire removed from the care of her real mother and/or father? What do Nathan and Meredith know or believe about that event? Do they know the truth or was the Haitian brought in to change their memory?

about the scar! I'd forgotten all about that. This should prove to be very interesting, the show-down between Peter and Sylar. They both have the same ability to absorb the powers of others, but it seems that Sylar must kill the person in order it absorb a power. Peter has no such restriction. He should, in effect, be able to absorb *all* the powers that Sylar has accumulated, making him just as dangerous to Sylar as Sylar is to him. More so, in fact, as Peter has also absorbed Claire's self-healing ability, something Sylar has not been able to do (and can disappear, too!). I can't wait to see the outcome of this. Too bad it looks like we now have to wait until the end of April. In case you haven't noticed, I love this show!

Why did they have to cut THERE? Well, I suppose it could be worse. They could have never gone back to Mohinder after Sylar escaped from the chair and came at him, and we'd all be thinking Mohinder was dead until April 23. I'm still more worried about Mohinder than Peter, though. Peter will definitely survive (and probably kick Sylar's butt), but Mohinder was pretty beaten up. And what about HRG? How will HE get out of the mess he's in?
(and this is speculation on my part, of course) Hiro returns from the future to see Peter on the subway. Remember the line, "You look different without your scar"? I'm going to guess this is the scar they are referring to. If all that we have seen before happens (that would include the destruction of NY) Peter will survive this but Isaac will still eventually die. Just fun to think about isn't it???!!! Isaac doesn't necessarily die. I've been dabbling on the official Heroes forum over at nbc.com, and the folks over there have freeze-framed a pic of the body that Hiro finds on the floor. It has a full beard, which Isaac doesn't. As a matter of fact, it looks more like Ted than anyone else. Now wouldn't THAT be interesting, if Sylar ended up with Ted's powers?
Those left standing will make millions writing books on the way it should have been. --Incubus

I think the writers of Heroes have learned from the other serial shows and addressed that problem head-on. In an interview they said that they love answering questions on their show because every answer leads to more questions. They really are in a better position than Lost or Twin Peaks or X Files because they aren't just about a mystery. They can resolve their mysteries and still have new challenges just by the nature of their existence (a la X Men). I agree that one of the best things about the show is that your first impressions are frequently challenged. Mrs. Bennett was a great example and I am a bit worried about her now that she has been inadvertedly ratted out. The kicker was the connection between the Haitian and Matron Petrelli, as you say. I also love it that she knows all about Claire. Nathan remains a favorite of mine and I thought Hiro's assessment of him was awfully good. I loved the way Linderman just blew his mind with all of the secrets he knew. I am a bit bugged by the shape shifter. I really have to suspend my disbelief to buy that power for some reason. I am with you about Niki/Jessica. I loved it though when DL showed us that he did not trust her one bit. I like DL quite a bit. I'm a bit worried about Matt and his marriage! Poor guy is having a bad time. What happened to the woman who recruited Matt and Ted to go after HRG? I'd also like to see more of Claude. I expect Sylar will head on over to Isaac's place if he survives his encounter with Peter. I wonder if Peter will blow up from over-stimulation from absorbing all of Sylar's powers?
