Been a long time since we did song parodies.

I love that sort of stuff. Back in the mists of time I wrote some parodies from 'The Saurond of Music'... brace yourselves... Imagine Frodo singing this!
Edit: There are more. Be afraid, be very afraid...

How do you solve a problem like Moria
How do you find Balin and track him down
Many a path meanders through Moria
Scrambling up, along, and stumbling down

Many’s the time you feel you want to tell him
His planning was awful – where’s the blinkin’ map?
But as you draw breath to say you’ve utterly lost your way
You find he’s been laid out beneath a slab

So how do you solve a problem like Moria?
How do you find your way out of this trap?
……………………

When I’m in here I’m confused, out of focus and bemused
And I never know exactly what to do
For the steps are far too steep, and the place gives me the creeps
And the Elven sword named Sting is glowing blue

There are goblins, there are Orcs, there are scary narrow walks
Where the chasms yawn below us in the gloom
There’s a cave troll grim and grey, never seen the light of day
And a Balrog by the bridge of Khazad Dum…
……………………..

So… how do you solve a problem like Moria
Crunching on corpses, in the midnight black
Caradhras and its blizzard’s looking brighter
But Squid demolished the doors – we can’t go back

Many’s the time I’ve asked the simple question
Why in the name of Middle Earth pick me?
This Fellowship of the Ring can think of many things
We’d really rather do if we were free

So... how do you solve a problem like Moria?
I’m just the poor Ring-Bearer –don’t ask me!

Another one from the archives [In reply to] Can't Post

for the 'Singalong Saurond of Music' session! My Favourite Rings...

Three for the Elvenkind, Seven for the Dwarf Lords
Nine Rings for mortal men, power-hungry Earth-lords
One of my very own, ruling all things
These are a few of my favourite Rings

Snowflakes on Caradhras blocking the passes
Jolly wee Orcs with their sharp stinging lashes
Bagginses dreading the call of the Ring
These are a few of my favourite things

When the Warg bites, when the Elf sings, when I’m feeling sad
I seek and I seek for my favourite Ring, and I say to myself - ‘I’m BAAAD!’

Ringwraiths that glower and wizards on towers
Marshes, miasmas and Dark Lordly powers
Frolicking Uruk-Hai, Balrogs with wings
These are a few of my favourite things

Watching the Fellowship in the palantir
Fine entertainment’s what I really want here
I mess with their minds and I make them see things
They think it’s the pipeweed – it’s me and my Ring!

When the Wraiths burn, when the Ents turn, when I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite Ring, and I say to myself - ‘I’m BAAAAD!’

Hmmm... [In reply to] Can't Post

Elves and Men and Dwarves gonna cower,
When I finish building my tower,
When I finish building my tower with the Eye on top!

Watch that Eye and see how it glowers,
Ain't no contest between the Two Towers,
Nosey folks'll peek thru' palantirs and their eyes will pop!
The battlement's black and immeasurably strong, an adamant mountain of iron,
A buttress of steel, impossibly tall, held aloft by the power of Sauron!

See that Eye a winkin' and blinkin',
Ain't no finer tower I'm thinkin',
You can keep Orthanc if you're thinkin' that I'd care to swap,
For my black and shiny tower with the Eye on the top!

-Rodgers and Hammerstein, The Lord of the Rings

The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Well [In reply to] Can't Post

Boromir is dead,
Poor Boromir is dead,
All gather round his canoe now and cry.
He had a heart of gold,
And he wasn't very old,
Oh why did such a feller have to die?

Boromir is dead,
Poor Boromir is dead,
He's lookin' oh so purty and so nice.
He looks like he's asleep,
It's a shame that he won't keep,
But the sun’s out and we're runnin' out a' ice.

Boromir is dead,
Poor Boromir is dead,
From Minas Tirith comes a weepin' sound.
The East Wind for a spell,
Will now blow a different smell,
Til Boromir is underneath the ground.

For you, a duet... [In reply to] Can't Post

[Dwarf]:
Don’t fetch a box for me.
Don’t serve me miruvor.
Let’s not sail to Valinor.
People will say we are buds.

[Elf]:
Don’t share malt beer with me,
Warm fires, meat off the bone.
Let’s not visit Aglarond.
People will say we are buds.

[Both]:
Don’t play at counting things,
[Slain with my axe.] [And my bow.]
Buddy, they’re suspecting things!
People will say we are buds!

Ah, friends! [In reply to] Can't Post

The Eldar and the Khazâd should be friends.
Oh, the Eldar and the Khazâd should be friends.
One loves tra-lal-lally mirth, the other tunnels in the earth,
But that's no reason why they can't be friends.

Westlands folks should stick together,
Westlands folks should all be pals.
Khazâd dance with the Eldars’ daughters,
Eldars dance with the Khazâd’s bearded individuals!

That sounds so familiar, but I couldn't place it, so I queried the omniscient Google:

I must have read that Poirot at some time, but cannot recall it! Well, that does it, my retirement list now includes "Re-read all the Agatha Christie Poirot". No, why stop there, I need to re-read ALL the Agatha Christie books! Excellent companions to my "Murder, She Wrote" DVDs, n'est-ce pas?

Perhaps some romance? [In reply to] Can't Post

Deep in the forest a lonely ranger,
(A Elbereth Gilthoniel!)
Wand’ring (not lost) and fearless of danger,
(Silivren penna míriel.)
There in a glade saw a dancing princess.
(O menel aglar elenath!)
A vision so lovely it took his senses.
(Na-chaered palan-díriel.)

Down in the valley a grumpy Elf-lord,
(O galadhremmin ennorath,)
Told him to win her first fix an old sword.
(Fanuilos, le linnathon)
Next become High King and find the White Tree,
(Nef near, sí nef aearon!)
Then they could marry and raise a family.
(A Elbereth Gilthoniel!)

That the meter of the Elvish chant meshes nicely with the yodeling lines!

And a bit more refined than tra-la-la-lally.

Queen Beruthiel, Queen Beruthiel,
There's no one like Queen Beruthiel,
She's broken every Gondor law,
She breaks the law of Earendil.
Her powers of feline-ation,
Would make Aiwendil stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime,
Queen Beruthiel's not there!
You may seek her in the Hallows,
You may search throughout the square,
But I tell you once and once again,
Queen Beruthiel's not there!
