"Edge of Darkness" recast and updated

I've just finished rewatching "Edge of Darkness", the original BBC series with Bob Peck as Ronnie Craven and Joe Don Baker as Darius Jedburgh, and I got to thinking, if the same series was recast in the modern day, forty-one years later, what changes would have to be made? We'd have everybody with smartphones, and landlines a rarity; we'd have Darius Jedburgh coming from the Levant-Mesopotamia rather than Central America; and the like.
Thoughts?
