Animated Bayoux tapestry

I saw this on another board and thought folks here might enjoy it: tapestry I've always thought Pauline Baynes' illustrations for Farmer Giles looked a lot like the people in this tapestry. I also have an interest because I was taught as a child I was descended from William the Conqueror. Turns out there was probably a weak link in the family tree: a first wife of one ancestor was descended from William, but I'm probably descended from the second wife. Ah, well. Actually, I've read that everyone with any European ancestry is descended from Charlemagne, so it's all kind of silly anyway. We do have some ancestors listed in the Domesday Book, though.

because I have an office-mate and we both keep our music turned down so as not to annoy each other. I'll have to give it another look.

I think this is my favorite You-Tube video yet! Great use of music. Along with a bit of the Rohan theme, I recognized "Mars" from Holst's "Planets," "Carmina Burana," and something from another movie soundtrack (the name of which escapes me right now). A much more sophisticated cousin of one of my other favorite Web videos: The Immigrant Song

because it sounds familiar, I'm guessing it's something I have. Out of the ones I have, I thinking Braveheart, Gladiator or possibly even Last of the Mohicans.

the bit I'm thinking of. Does that ring a bell? Also, the beginning really sounds like Philip Glass or an imitator, but it's not something I know.

but if the music were similar enough to anything I have seen/heard... it might sound familiar. So perhaps it is. Or perhaps were talking about two different spots. Ha... what can occupy our minds with pleasant distractions. Resists urge to start pulling CDs off the shelf.

The Greek composer Vangelis wrote the music for '1492'.He also did the music for 'Blade Runner'. I have seen the original Bayeaux Tapestry in France. It's well worth seeing but I think you may have to book tickets in advance.Bayeaux is very picturesque with a waterwheel by the river, beautiful houses and lovely cafe's and restaurants. Not everybody likes the French but I highy recommend them for one thing---spotlessly clean toilets! I travelled to Normandy, Bayeaux, Rouen and Mont St. Michael and did not see one unclean bathroom or toilet.I can't say the same about my own country, which makes me want to scream. My family name is also in the Domeday book but not under its present form.

but the soundtrack was used for a really great pairs-skating routine, which is why I recognized it. It comes near the end of the Channel crossing, I think (a very brief snippet). I don't know the score to "Gladiator" at all, so I wouldn't recognize it.

It always features highly in the Classic FM chart here in the U.K. It's a very emotional soundtrack and the film is brilliant on so many levels.Russell Crowe deserved his Best Actor win but it was a travesty that Sir Ridley Scott didn't win Best Director. The film just ticks all the boxes IMHO. BTW, Vangelis has written my scores but he has also worked on his own compositions, too.He writes very atmospheric music and I've heard a few of his pieces in adverts and trailers. The music he did for 'Blade Runner' was exceptional and really helped to create the tone for the film. I sometimes watch skating, too, and I'm always trying to pick out the tracks being used.I've heard LOTR and Enya a few times.

I'd only seen snippets of close-ups of the Bayeaux tapestry (the segment with the comet over Harold seems to be pretty common). This is very well done - love the music as well! I'm yet another who's got an ancestry line which can supposedly be traced back to someone arriving in the Norman invasion... Thanks for the history lesson, Aunt Dora!
