Hello, all! I wanted to pop in with a virtual bottle of champagne, as today happens to be my 10th year on these wonderful boards. I lurked on and off for several years after the LOTR films came out, and finally decided to jump in after the release of the first Hobbit film in order to join in on the reactions/speculation.
It's been an amazing ten years with you all. Special shoutouts to the Mods for their seemingly endless patience, wisdom and good hearts; to the RR folks for the wonderful conversations over the years and their seemingly endless ability to cite Tolkien at all hours of the day; the Hobbit forum folks (many of whom aren't on the boards anymore, sadly) for their infectious excitement in the 2012-2015 years that helped me get through some tougher years, and the lively and lovely Fiesta crew that feels like a second family I get to read about weekly, and who always are there with lovely virtual hugs and support as we all go through this strange life. It's been incredible even getting to meet a few of you all (including Lissuin, Roheryn, NZStrider and entmaiden), and I hope someday to cross paths with more too!
I've always felt like a bit of a young Ent around here, having not been around for the First Age of TORn and eagerly looking to participate as much as time allows. That energy persists to this day, thankfully, and while time doesn't always allow for 25 posts per day like we all did years ago (somehow!), it's great fun knowing that there's faces both old and new who can continue to contribute to this wonderful little oasis of the internet, all in our own way. Heck, this place is what drove me to get to New Zealand for an incredible 6 months several years ago, which was a trip that began many other personal journeys for me. And for that I will be ever grateful.
Somewhat fortuitously, this is also my 5000th post on the boards, so it would seem I'm Half-Elven and 10 years old at the same time, at least in TORn years! I promise I did not intend for such odd timing (only noticed it a couple of days ago). Perhaps Gandalf would have some wise things to say about that kind of timing.
Anyway, I don't have any concrete Mathoms to share with you all (we'd be here another 10 years waiting for me to get any photos to upload here properly, lol), but I will leave this post with some words from Treebeard, which somehow capture the essence of this community to me in various ways.
In the willow-meads of Tasarinan I walked in the Spring.
Ah! the sight and the smell of the Spring in Nan-tasarion!
And I said that was good.
I wandered in Summer in the elm-woods of Ossiriand.
Ah! the light and the music in the Summer by the Seven Rivers of Ossir!
And I thought that was best.
To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire.
To the pine-trees upon the highland of Dorthonion I climbed in the Winter.
Ah! the wind and the whiteness and the black branches of Winter upon Orod-na-Thôn!
My voice went up and sang in the sky.
And now all those lands lie under the wave,
And I walk in Ambarona, in Tauremorna, in Aldalómë,
In my own land, in the country of Fangorn,
Where the roots are long,
And the years lie thicker than the leaves
In Tauremornalómë.

How does it feel, to be half-elven? 
Thank you for the poignant words of Treebeard! That's what reading LotR is like: you feel that you're in the latter days of a vast history which was beautiful and vibrant, but has now passed.

So many places have either no vibe or a bad vibe, so I suppose it was easy to gravitate to such a fun and playful vibe on this site.
And yes, somehow it's been over 10 years already! I can remember going to the premiere for AUJ like it was yesterday, in my little plushie hobbit slippers. 2012 feels like simpler times at this point, doesn't it?
