Interests: Apart from the obvious, I have a great interest in linguistics (for which Tolkien is partly to blame), archeaeology, (the history of Iron Age Britain in particular), literary theory/criticism and attendant cultural studies, amongst other acedemic pursuits. I like to read, swim, walk, paint miniatures, build model aeroplanes, play with my budgie and have an all round good time!
First Lord of the Rings reading experience: I remember the day vividly. The year, 2001. I had heard about this "Lord of the Rings" film from my father who had read the books as a kid. I came home one day from school, and sitting on the table was a box set of the books, newly purchased. I went along and saw the film, was supremely frightened by it (I was only a lil' kid lol) but determined to read the books. I haven't looked back since.
Favorite Tolkien character: Turin: absolutely adored The Children of Hurin on released and have come to have a supreme respect and admiration for that particular story. I may be in the minority, but I believe it to contain be the most distilled, thought provoking and fascinating work Tolkien ever conceived. Apart from that, the prose is tight and beautifully wrought. A true prose poem methinks.
Less Filling or Tastes Great: Tastes Great
Elves and Dragons or Cabbages and Potatoes: Elves and Dragons
