My sister read it outloud in our shared room before bed. It was too scary for me then and I didn't connect with it. 1968?
I don't remember exactly when I read it for myself. Many years later in the Eighties probably starting with the Hobbit most probably. And then I read them over and over and over for a decade or so. Today I just bought more books in the thrift store.
Favorite Tolkien character:
Aragon and Tom Bombadil (sp)
Aragorn because he's a mysterious and intelligent character with integrity. And Bombadil because his house was so cozy, warm and safe, and Goldberry was awesome.
But I would live in Rivendell with the Elves forever if I could.
I like Legolas and Gandalf too! This is hard!
