History
First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
When I was in High School in the late 60's/early 70's Repeated readings of this Trilogy, the subsequent discovery of C.S.Lewis, a minor in mideval history, and an extended period of true poverty following the desinigration of Geology as a career coupled with a deep faith in God has lead to a world view which helps me understand what is truely important in life.
Favorite Tolkien character:
Strider/Aragorn -- for his humility. By this I mean his is totally aware of his place in the scheme of things, totally confident in his abilities but feels no need to announce any of this. He just goes ahead and does what needs doing with no fanfare just determination.
