First Lord of the Rings reading experience: I have to say I am one of those "post-Peter-Jackson-movies-Tolkien-readers". Not that there is anything wrong about it, but people tend to think that these readers are not that into the literature. I tell you that it is not the case! :) I read The Hobbit around the year 2000 - my aunt made me a birthday present of this novel. I really liked it and thought of it to be a great adventure story. When the movies came out, I first did not realize that the stories (LotR and TH) are connected to each other, since tone and mood etc. are so different. I then read the German translation of the LotR and the English original after that. These stories are amazing and its great to read so many different stories of Tolkien, to find them merging into a magnum opus.
