Favorite Tolkien character: Boromir. I think Tolkien displayed a perfect example of a tragic hero. On one hand he wants to help the quest, but on the other hand he's fighting the expectations his father has given him to take the ring. While its easy to see him as selfish and only doing what he sees as beneficial, he also struggles to protect everyone within the company, ultimately sacraficing his own life. This shows a perfect struggle within ones' self.
