I took a class in high school called "Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Mystery. It was mostly seniors using it as a blow-off class, but I was very excited about the content. Our teacher assigned us The Hobbit, which I, of course, read ahead of assignment. The teacher was a big LOTR fan, and was telling me about the rest of the books. This is around the time when they were filming LOTR and leaked images were coming out, so I would bring him pictures and he'd speculate what they were about. I had to run out and get the Trilogy after this. His class was probably my favorite memory of high school
Favorite Tolkien character:
Eowyn. Very few writers of the time ever wrote about Heroines, and she's a very powerful female character. Her killing of the Witch King is still my favorite part.
