reading fantasy (Tolkien, Tamora Pierce, Lloyd Alexander, Cassandra Clare, CS Lewis, Susan Cooper, Holly Black, too many more)
drawing and painting (I like graphite, art markers, and oil paints)
writing (I'm working on a novel)
First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
I came late to it. I saw about 5 minutes of the Extended Edition of the Fellowship of the Ring, and my dad, a lifelong fan, had me read the books first. A week later, I had finished reading The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion.
Favorite Tolkien character:
I really like Luthien, because she is the rare strong female character in a patriarchal world. She follows her heart and Beren, and in a way, she gains the Silmaril from Morgoth, rather than Beren. She saves Beren so many times, and ultimately gives up her immortality to save him again.
