First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
To be honest, I was at first appalled at the idea of having to read the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings. Not that it didn't fall into my favorite genre, but my mother dared to call it "classic literature", when I went through a phase of reading nothing but young adult/teen books. Awful, I know.
But one night RotK was on television... I was utterly confused by the Path's of the Dead, but utterly engrossed. I decided maybe Lord of the Rings wasn't as bad I had thought. Needless to say, I saw the movies first. Soon thereafter I bought a copy of all three books and read them over the course of a year or so. (I really need to replace that poor book)
