Tomb is a good one. [In reply to] Can't Post

I did say Forest, and squire did say Wind. Perhaps I should revise and repost the list, and organize it in some manner, but I'm not planning to do so at the moment. If anyone else wants to do so, that would be fine by me.

On the new boards... [In reply to] Can't Post

there is the advantage that old posts should always be easy to find and access, so you can return to this topic and organize it at your leisure.

squire had Tomb too [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd done a Search, but limited it to a week, and I guess the thread started before that. And I didn't think a post headed 'Those batty hobbits' was going to have so much other stuff in it!

Here's an alphabetical list of what's come up so far - hope I haven't overlooked any, but I think I've been through all the posts now. It looks as if Map is missing - although I don't know whether they figure in the Sil or not.

I came late to this game [In reply to] Can't Post

but I find it strangely appealing! ;-)

Here are a few more that aren't on the list, for your consideration:

Birds
Bow/Arrow
Garden
Heir/Heirloom
Island
King
Sleep (incl. dreams, charmed sleep, sleep mistaken for death)

glimmered and was lost.

though I'm not sure they are visualized easily, are Time and Hope/Despair.

"just because gray in medieval art..." [In reply to] Can't Post

"...represented temptation (Haupt, 115), we need not analyze under this association Gandalf the Grey's fear of temptation through the Ring."

From NZS's published article on "Colors" in Tolkien. The reference is to A. Haupt's "Die Farbsymbolik in der sakralen Kunst des abendlšndischen Mittelalters" of 1941.
