Voices and Actors [In reply to] Can't Post

I think Ron Perlman would be great as the voice of Smaug. And/or Beorn. Tremendous voice, whether it's Vincent from "Beauty and the Beast," or the hunchback Salvatore in "Name of the Rose," Johner in "Alien: Resurrection," or Hellboy, or any of the NUMEROUS voice parts he has done. (Just check out his listing on imdb.com!)

And he would be a fabulous Beorn. John Rhys-Davies did both Gimli and Treebeard in LOTR; why not cast one actor for two parts here as well? Ron is used to working--and emoting--through heavy make up. (I once wondered if he was even able to work without benefit of prosthetics!) And he and GDT have a track record! He certainly has the chops (no pun intended!) to make the relatively small part of Beorn into a true scene stealer. With a bit of modulation and Draconic rumbling, he could do a memorable Smaug as well. I can almost hear him go from soft and almost soothing..."Well, thief! I smell you and I feel your air....Come along! Help yourself...there's plenty and to spare!" To his braggadocios roar: " I kill where I wish and none dare resist(!)....I am strong, strong strong, Thief in the Shadows!" Here's hoping!

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
