Inline Markup code Can't Post

what I am trying to do is adjust my footer so that the test wraps to the right of the image...like in NE Brigands footer.

For starter, I am only able to use basic editor, since my browzer (Safari) doesn't use doesn't support Advanced editor. So it using using all mark-up for me.

I looked it up on the mark-up cheat-sheet, and the ones I found don't make sense to me.

what I use:
[image]http://www.pictureplace.com/images/filename.gif[/image]
what I found on mark-up cheat-sheet:
[inline attachment_filename.gif]

first : is that word 'attachment' part of the mark-up of part of the fake file name?

second: do I need to keep using the code for image & combine it with the inline code? if so, in wht way?

third: if not, what then...is that all I really need to make my image show up in footer with text wrapped beside it?

Ii hope I am making sense.

Ha! I made the mistake [In reply to] Can't Post

of including 'attachment' in the code the first time. Won't work with that word in it!
[inline filename] is what I've got scribbled in my notes.
I haven't tried it in the footer.

Your footer uses 'true' HTML [In reply to] Can't Post

...not markup. So if you want text to the right of your pic in your footer, you need to do it with an HTML table. I don't know the code for that by heart and can't look it up now, but I think someone posted how to do it in one of the threads here on Feedback.

The "inline attachment_filename.gif] " markup is for attaching a picture to your post, not for making your footer, and Eowyn (is correct), all you need to type is [ inline filename ] to insert a pic using markup, but you must upload it to TORn first.

Instructions for doing that are in the FAQ, but might be a little clearer in this post a bit down the page on this Feedback board.

To put text to the right of an image [In reply to] Can't Post

using HTML, put: align="left" inside the image tag like this:

<img src="http:www.yoursite.com/yourpic.jpg" align="left">

...and the sails were drawn up, and the wind blew,
and slowly the ship slipped away down the long grey firth;
and the light of the glass of Galadriel that Frodo bore
glimmered and was lost.

the table code looks like this [In reply to] Can't Post

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td>stuff in left column goes here</td>

<td>stuff in right column goes here</td>

</tr>

</table>

A quick explanation:

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> = table starts here and will have no cell padding,spacing, or border

<tr> = beginning of table row (thus "tr")

<td> = beginning of a table column ("td" is literally "table data")

for every opening tag you have to have a close tag which is indicated by the forward slash. So it goes (translated into English)

  • Table-open

  • open table row,

  • open table data (left column),

  • stuff in the column,

  • close table data

  • open new table data (second column),

  • stuff in second column

  • close table data

  • close table row,

  • close table.

Thank-you so much for the table code. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll try that tomorrow.

I am curious...
what is it about Bilbo's quote or that moment in Bilbo's story that inspired you to put that in your footer?

That's good to know! [In reply to] Can't Post

The old boards didn't support tables, as I figured out after much frustration, so I hadn't even tried to go there on the new boards yet!

that's odd... [In reply to] Can't Post

I have everything that is on my footer now written using Mark-up.

Last week I tried to use HTML but the code showed up and not anything functioned.
So, I gave up on tryng to use HTML. I even turned it off in my settings. (I was attempting to post links and was having trouble . . . that issue is totally resolved now...curly quotes, now gone and fixed) So, I could turn it back on to both "HTML and Markup" in my Display Profile.

I read that post below diligently when it was first posted it because of my own interest. The problem with following the instructions in your post, is that I do not have a "picture icon" that is required as part of the steps in the instruction. Advanced Editor is not available to me. So, none of those upload functions on the bottom work for me. I still have bruises leftover from hours of trying to make it work.

So, I guess I will attempt to use Hatster's table below. But, that means I will have to rewrite everything in my footer back to HTML I won't be able to get that right away.

I really do thank you and everyone in this thread for tryng to help me.

to use html [In reply to] Can't Post

I believe you must be in the basic editor then look over your edit area for the drop down menu that allows you to choose html instead of "markup" Good luck!

You too? [In reply to] Can't Post

I remember looking up those blasted table codes just so I could post pictures and captions in a certain formation for one of the illustration discussions, only to find that the code got wiped out as soon as I previewed the post. Had to figure out another way to approximate what I wanted.

Pics in Basic Editor [In reply to] Can't Post

Quote

Actually, the post I was referring to describes how to insert a pic if you don't have access to (or don't chose to use) Advanced Editor, and *don't* have the picture icon. Smile

1) upload your image to TORn which will store it for you (use the 'browse' button below the reply box to find the image file on your hard drive, and be sure to click the 'inline' box before you upload it).

2) insert it into your pic using the code from "Get Markup Help": place your cursor where you want your pic and type < inline attachmentname >, but use the [.] brackets instead of the <...> brackets, and be sure the only space is between the word "inline" and the name of your picture attachement file. (Hint: copy the "attachmentname" right from the filename at the bottom of the screen once you've uploaded it)....

That doesn't help you with your footer problem, but hopefully it will help with pics in the future.

One of the things on my list is to break the FAQ instructions for inserting pics into two parts, one for Advanced Editor and one for Basic Editor as I realize it's not very clear the way it is now. Smile

Do the footer options then include full font coding? My signature's looking funny.
